Vortex White Suffolk & Charollais Stud

Many of our dams are dry or unusable. Every farmer I have spoken to this year has stressed the same issue and concerns. This is a wide spread problem throughout much of Victoria. This is an opportunity to get the excavator out, improve dams and to put in pumps and pipe to get through this. We have to spend money. This is the worst funding I have seen in our drought years in one of the worst droughts for water storages. Why the big discrepancy between South West Victoria and the rest of us?

To put things into perspective, the damage behind me is one i have never seen the bottom of.

Edit: We have not lost dams due to firefighting.

Today we decided to go through some of the better ram lambs. Lambing this year was from mid July onwards. So far they have done well on just dry grass pasture however, after 44mm of Rain a couple of days ago and this years drought thinning things out it won't be long before they will need to go onto stubbles to keep going.

You should be seeing some of these guys on September 30th next year at our annual ram sale.

After sending some rams their way, we are taking one back. We have purchased lot 5 from Venturon Livestock. He's a well put together ram with an exceptional hindquarter. He will bring plenty of meat, structure and quality and is our first purchase from Western Australia.

He's by Rene 210456 who was the top price ($10,500) ram at their sale in 2022, a ram we were the losing bidder on.

An exceptional ram with exceptional Charollais traits and a very good pedigree. We are very happy to have him!

Another One!

We are pleased to welcome another new White Suffolk sire to the stud from Induro White Suffolks. Lot 4 has excellent figures and packs a lot of meat through the loin and hind quarters. We have a lot of ewes who are great fits for this ram and we look forward to our new sires adding more meat and figures to our stud in the coming years. Thank you Induro!

We have added another quality sire to our stud with lot 52 from Camlea. A nice clean, well coloured, neat, typey ram with plenty of muscle, good weight and good EMD. He was the top priced ram of the sale and will be the right fit for many of our ewes. Thank you Charollais SHEEP Australia!
