Is this the new normal for lamb?

There’s plenty lining up for the sheep industry right now - strong demand, low ewe numbers, forward contracts with a 10 in front of them and growing opportunities across the lamb market.

Fresh from LambEx, Grant shares why he believes the current optimism has some real staying power -“not a bubble or a boom, but a longer consistent trend.”

And with around 200 Poll Dorset and White Suffolk rams being prepared for our 22nd Annual Production Sale, the timing couldn’t be better.

A very successful Farm Forum was held in Goroke last Friday, supported by Janmac, the National Centre for Farmer Health and the Goroke A&P Society.

The day kicked off with Claudia Bryant, who spoke about the use of AI in agriculture and some of the exciting developments and opportunities ahead.

Ben Glass and his team from Hopkins River Ag followed, showcasing the benefits of multi-species pastures, with some impressive images and production results being achieved.

Following a magnificent soup and lamb roll lunch, we heard from Scott Somers about the impressive development of QA Hay at Warracknabeal. The new facility is now preparing to press hay for export around the world on an amazing scale.

Key speaker Lachie McKenzie shared plenty from his experience with McKenzie Ag, talking nutrition, feedlotting, farming and, of course, his love of quality black cattle.

The day was rounded out with a very entertaining and hilarious set of magic tricks from Waldo the Great!

A big thanks to MC Tara Rich, Dwain Duxson from The Farmers Club, Katherine and Nanette for the soup, Springhill for the snacks, Western Ag for a few drinks and Goroke IGA for their help.

Congratulations to everyone involved in another fantastic community event. What an exciting time to be in agriculture!

Introducing Scott Somers – QA Hay

A new export hay business, years in the planning has just produced its first bales in Warracknabeal.

Mixed farmer Scott Somers, together with fellow farmer Paul Johns, has taken on one of his biggest projects yet - developing QA Hay, a new greenfield export hay business based in Warracknabeal.

With production now underway, Scott will be interviewed by Dwain Duxson from The Farmers Club about how the project came to fruition, where QA Hay is headed and the opportunities it could create for Wimmera and Mallee farmers.
