Not every day do we have opera echoing through our underground cellars!

One of our favourite stops on a Seppelt Great Western Underground Tour is Dame Nellie Melba Drive.

We often find ourselves explaining just who Dame Nellie Melba was. Our usual line? Think Taylor Swift of the early 1900s! That generally gets a chuckle or two.

But today, we didn’t need to explain a thing!

Back in 1910, the world-famous Australian opera singer visited Great Western to officially open the underground Drive named in her honour. Her visit also gave us one of our favourite stories, involving a bathtub and 152 bottles of ch*****ne!

Fast forward 116 years, and today we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Clarissa Dodawec, who stood in Dame Nellie Melba Drive and treated our guests to a beautiful operatic performance.

What a moment. What an incredible sound in those historic tunnels.

We reckon Dame Nellie herself would have approved!

FIVE RED STARS. AGAIN.

We’re incredibly proud to share that Seppelt has once again been awarded 5 Red Stars in the 2027 Halliday W**e Companion.

It’s a little badge that represents something much bigger: consistency, craftsmanship and exceptional w**e, year after year.

From generations of w**emaking history to the w**es being poured at our Great Western Cellar Door today, it’s pretty special to see the Seppelt name continuing to sit among Australia’s outstanding w**eries.

A huge congratulations to Clare Dry, the w**emaking and viticulture teams and every person who plays a part in bringing these w**es to life.

Five red stars. Another year. We’ll raise a glass to that.

Turns out we’re seeing red… and we’re VERY happy about it.

Seppelt has done it again, receiving 5 RED STARS in the 2027 Halliday W**e Companion.

And these aren’t stars handed out for having one particularly good year. Five Red Stars recognise w**eries that keep producing exceptional w**es, vintage after vintage.

Which feels pretty fitting for a place that’s been making a bit of w**e history at Great Western for a very long time.

Historic cellars underground. Some seriously good w**e above ground. And another five red stars to add to the story.

We’re pretty chuffed.

Before Seppelt was Seppelt, it was Irvine’s W**es.

This incredible image from 1905 shows barrels lined up at the Great Western w**ery, with the roof of historic Vine Lodge just peeking through on the left.

Hans Irvine purchased the w**ery in 1888 and was the man who truly put Great Western w**e on the map. He expanded the w**ery, embraced sparkling w**e production and even opened a London warehouse to take Great Western w**es directly to the British market. Seppelt later purchased Irvine’s W**es in 1918, beginning the next chapter of this remarkable place.
