The largest magnate families, often supported by neighboring countries, were constantly playing among themselves for influence, which resulted in the actual paralysis of the state, because any of the factions was not allowed to gain an advantage. This is what the Radziwiłł family of the Trąby, Branicki, Ogiński, Czartoryski, Sapiehas, Potocki, Lubomirski, Rzewuski coat of arms and many other families in the Crown and Lithuania did. The main, opposing camps were represented by the pro-Russian party of the Czartoryskis and Poniatowski (the so-called Familia camp), and the pro-Prussian party of the Potocki family. Between them there was also the so-called Kamaryla Mniszcha, or millet camp. Later, supporters of hetman Branicki were also a separate party. In 1763, the Czartoryskis planned to carry out a coup d'état with the help of Russia and remove Augustus, but this was prevented by the earlier death of the king.
Augustus III (1696-1763) was King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1734 until 1763, as well as Elector of Saxony in the Holy Roman Empire from 1733 until 1763 where he was known as Frederick Augustus II.

In 1399, Poland's Queen Jadwiga sold her crown jewels. Not for personal gain, but to re-establish the Cracow Academy, now known as Jagiellonian University.

This wasn't just a royal gesture. The university, originally founded in 1364, had fallen into decline. Jadwiga's personal sacrifice, along with her husband King Władysław II Jagiełło, ensured its revival and future.

Her investment paid off. Jagiellonian University became a beacon of learning, educating figures like Nicolaus Copernicus and Pope John Paul II. It stands today as one of the world's oldest universities, a testament to a queen's vision.

Few monarchs would sacrifice their personal wealth for education. Did you know about Queen Jadwiga's incredible legacy? 🇵🇱 👑

For over 600 years, the Gorals of Poland's Tatra Mountains have fiercely guarded a culture unlike any other in Europe. This distinct group, whose identity began forming in the 14th century, speaks a unique Polish dialect with Slovak influences.

Their traditional music, often featuring unique scales and instruments like bagpipes, is instantly recognizable. It's a vibrant blend of Slavic folklore with touches of Slovak, Hungarian, and Romanian sounds. Their heritage is deeply rooted in shepherding, intricate crafts, and a way of life intrinsically tied to the rugged mountain landscape.

While many cultures fade, the Gorals have preserved their traditions, language, and music against all odds. They are a living testament to Poland's rich and diverse history.

Did you know about these incredible Polish Highlanders? 🇵🇱
