🐪🇦🇺 A LITTLE QUIET ON SOCIAL MEDIA… BUT WE’VE BEEN BUSY MAKING HISTORY! ❤️
You may have noticed we’ve been a little quiet on here lately, but we’ve been incredibly busy with camels, doing something we absolutely love!
Learning more about Camels!
We’ve just returned from an unforgettable adventure alongside our wonderful cameleer family, celebrating Australia’s pioneering history and the incredible working animals that helped build our country over 100 years ago.
And what an adventure it was! 🐪🐎🐂
We were fortunate enough to be part of the Barellan Working Days Festival, held annually over the October long weekend, showcasing the skills, traditions and working animals of a time before modern machinery, electricity and transport.
But before the festival, there was plenty happening behind the scenes!
🐪 32 CAMELS, ONE HISTORIC WOOL WAGON AND A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY MADE!
Working alongside our fellow cameleers, we spent several days preparing and fine-tuning the camels for something truly extraordinary.
Together, we achieved what we believe to be a modern-day record — harnessing 32 camels in traditional harness to pull a magnificent 100-year-old timber wool wagon!
To see all those camels working together, just as they would have generations ago, was an incredible sight and something we were so proud to help bring to life for the public at Barellan.
It took patience, teamwork, trust and a whole lot of dedication from our amazing cameleer family.
🌾 FIVE DAYS ON THE STOCK ROUTE
Another unforgettable part of this adventure was helping host some wonderful visitors from NACROA America, giving them a truly authentic Australian camel wagon experience.
We spent five incredible days travelling along an old stock route, moving camp each day alongside fellow cameleers, horsemen and bullock teams.
Just imagine…
🔥 Camp oven dinners cooked over an open fire.
✨ Sleeping in swags beneath a magnificent Australian sky filled with millions of stars.
🐎 Horses, camels and bullocks settling in for the night.
🌾 Travelling through beautiful Australian bushland at the pace of our working animals.
❤️ Stories, laughter, friendships and good old-fashioned bush hospitality around the campfire.
No hustle and bustle, no modern-day distractions — just wonderful people, incredible animals and the simplicity of life on the road.
You really couldn’t ask for a better place to be!
🇦🇺 THEN CAME THE BARELLAN WORKING DAYS FESTIVAL!
After our days on the stock route, we enjoyed an amazing weekend surrounded by people who share our passion for Australia’s history.
The festival is a wonderful celebration of the way things were done over 100 years ago.
From traditional cowhide rope making and Furphy water tanks to working horses, bullock teams, donkeys, goats and, of course, our magnificent camels.
It’s about remembering a time when these animals were the backbone of our country, transporting wool, supplies and goods, working the land and connecting remote communities.
These animals helped build Australia, and their stories deserve to be remembered.
But what made this whole adventure even more special was sharing it with our cameleer family and so many wonderful people who have the same passion for keeping these traditions alive.
The friendships, the teamwork, the laughs, the hard work and the memories are something we’ll treasure for a very long time.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in making this incredible experience possible and to the organisers and volunteers of the Barellan Working Days Festival.
We feel so fortunate to have been part of something so special.
This is the Australia we love — the animals, the history, the friendships and the wide-open country. ❤️🇦🇺
We’ve got so many incredible photos and stories to share from our adventure, so stay tuned!
