Wholegrain Milling

Wholegrain Milling Pioneers of Sustainable Flour since 1978. Bringing to life mineral rich, chemical residue free grain through good food. Wholegrain Milling Co.

began with Wendy and Harry Neale using a small bench-mounted stone mill to grind flours on their family kitchen table in Gunnedah, NSW,

That was back in 1978, and over four decades our business has grown into one of the largest suppliers of flours in Australia. Today, we have now built a state-of-the-art modern mill that uses seven custom-built traditional stone mills and a specially designed rol

ler. This draws on a huge variety of grains from over 100 onsite storage silos, much of the wheat now coming from our own land. The humble bench mounted stone mill first used by Wendy and Harry remains in occasional use, testimony to our unchanging ethos. Just as Wholegrain Milling Co. has flourished from one generation to the next, we believe the land that grows our grains must be nurtured and nourished for those who follow us.

It starts with how the grain is grown.

Out in the paddock
long before it reaches the mill.

Healthy soil plays a big part in that -
supporting better grain from the ground up.

It’s not complicated.
Just doing things properly.

This week marks Compost Week -
a reminder that it all starts below the surface.

Meet Adam.

Our Plant Manager. Wholegrainer since 2015.

No shortcuts.
Steady, consistent work
to make sure every batch meets the mark.

Just like his darts game on a Friday night.

That’s what sits behind every bag.

Sustainability gets talked about a lot.

For us, it’s always been part of how we do things.

It starts with how the grain is grown,
and carries through every step that follows.

Our Why Sustainability Matters report shares the full picture.

From paddock to mill, to bakery — it’s all connected.

If you’re interested in where your flour comes from, it’s worth a read.

You can find the full report on our website, in the Sustainability section.

Lower carbon, right through the process.

Our flours have a lower carbon footprint than conventional options — not just because of how the grain is grown, but everything that follows.

From farmers using sustainable practices, to the way we mill, to how it’s transported. Every step is considered to reduce impact.

By hand. Slow fermentation. Real craft.

Beautiful work by 🤍

Made using our flours, with long fermentation and natural leavening — a process rooted in care, patience and respect for the craft.

Proud to have been part of this journey for over 7 years.

This is what it’s all about.

What does “Certified Sustainable flour” actually mean?
It means the grain is grown in a way that looks after the land, not just the yield.

Our farmers use practices that improve soil health, reduce chemical use and support biodiversity, so the land can keep producing for generations to come.

For you, that means flour grown with care, from the ground up.

In case you missed it - we’ve had a bit of a refresh.

After nearly 50 years, we’ve updated the Wholegrain Milling Co. brand to better reflect who we are today and where we’re heading.

Same values. Same commitment to care and doing things the right way.
Just with a fresh look to match.

If you haven’t already, take a look at the new brand at wholegrain.com.au

We’re proud of how far we’ve come and excited for what’s ahead.

Did you know every grain we mill can be tracked back to where it was grown? Sourced from sustainable and organic Australian farms, it’s flour that starts with better farming and ends with better baking. Better for people. Better for the planet 🌏

Summer holidays in Australia are made for hitting the road and exploring our pristine beaches and waterways. Checking out out local bakeries on the way is always part of the fun 😋

We had the pleasure of catching up with Kim, Hannah and the team at , a community-minded coastal bakery in beautiful Burrill Lake NSW 🏄‍♂️ 🏖️

Nourishment sits at the core of everything they do. Slowly fermented sourdough and hand crafted baked goods, made with care and with a focus on sustainable and local ingredients wherever possible.

Lagom takes its name from the Swedish word meaning “just the right amount”. Simple, slow and balanced.

If you’re after good food, good company and a stunning view, make sure you swing by and say hello! 😎
