Clifford's Honey Farm Clifford’s Honey Farm
Official and only account Clifford’s Honey Farm is one honey producer on Kangaroo
Island.

Dave and Jenny Clifford have been bee keepers since 1965 with the Honey Farm Shop Established in 1993. Kangaroo Island is the world’s oldest bee sanctuary and is home to the only pure strain of Ligurian Bee in the world. Due to their isolation they have
remained free of the major bee diseases, which infect mainland bees. Bees cannot fly to Kangaroo Island because it is too far, even with strong w

inds to propel them. To protect their genetic purity and disease free status all bees, beehives, used beekeeping equipment, honey, pollen, beeswax or other hive products are restricted from entering KI.

It was lovely to welcome Jess from SATC, who works in experience development, and Sally Smith, Project Manager, Tourism for Good at SATC, to Clifford’s Honey Farm.

We enjoyed sharing our story, how we do things here at the farm, and how our visitor experience has grown around our bees, honey and Kangaroo Island’s unique Ligurian bees.

It was also a great opportunity to talk about the ways we give back through education, school visits and sharing the importance of bees, pollination and protecting what makes Kangaroo Island so special.

Thank you Jess and Sally for taking the time to visit and learn more about what we do.

Our Narrow-Leaf Mallee Honey is one of those special Kangaroo Island harvests that doesn’t come around often.

The Narrow-Leaf Mallee may not flower for seven years or more, making this beautiful honey especially rare. Harvested in summer 2024, it has a rich flavour and is available only while this limited supply lasts.

Available in store at Clifford’s Honey Farm or online.

Why hexagons?

Honeycomb is one of nature’s cleverest designs. The hexagonal shape allows bees to build strong, space-efficient comb while using as little precious beeswax as possible — leaving plenty of room to store honey.

A pretty amazing bit of engineering from our bees.

👑🐝 How do you make a queen bee?

It starts with a tiny young larva. During queen rearing, carefully selected larvae are grafted by hand into queen cups. Nurse bees then take over, feeding the developing queen larvae royal jelly and raising the next generation of queens.

A fascinating look at the skill and care behind beekeeping at Clifford’s Honey Farm, Kangaroo Island. 🍯🐝

From hive to candle. 🐝🕯️

Our Ligurian honey bees give us so much more than honey.

Beeswax is naturally produced by worker bees to build the comb within their hive. Once collected, the wax can be melted and given a whole new life.

At Clifford’s Honey Farm, we hand pour our beeswax candles right here on Kangaroo Island. 💛

Every flower tells a story.
Every visit matters.
Tiny wings. Incredible journeys.
Dusted in pollen. Quietly pollinating.
Thousands of flowers each day.
Nature at work.
Every jar of honey begins with moments like these. 🍯🐝

Our community puzzle is changing! 🧩💛

After 7 months of puzzling, chatting, stopping in for “just one more piece” and slowly bringing our Four Seasons puzzle to life, it’s finally time for a new one! 🙌🍂☀️🌸❄️

A huge thank you to everyone who added a piece along the way — locals, visitors, kids, grown-ups and puzzle lovers alike. It’s been such a lovely little part of the shop and so much fun watching it come together piece by piece. 💛

Now… puzzle number 2 is ready to begin! 🐝🌻
Our next challenge is this beautiful bee-themed Cobble Hill puzzle 🐝🍯🌼 and we’d love your help again.

So next time you pop into Clifford’s Honey Farm, pull up a chair, find a few pieces and add to the puzzle! Every little piece helps 🧩✨

Join in anytime — one piece or twenty, all are welcome 💛

🐝💛 It starts with a healthy bee.

Across much of Australia, beekeepers are learning to manage Varroa mite — a tiny parasite that weakens bees, spreads disease and threatens hive survival.

Here on Kangaroo Island, our pure Ligurian honey bees remain Varroa-free, protected by world's oldest honey bee sanctuary.

How can you help? Respect Kangaroo Island's quarantine rules when travelling, support local beekeepers and choose locally produced Kangaroo Island honey.

For our family, beekeeping is about more than honey. It's about caring for healthy bees, protecting a unique legacy and sharing a little piece of Kangaroo Island with every jar. 🍯🌼
