“GO AWAY FOR A HOLIDAY AND MAKE THE MOST OF THE TIME YOU HAVE LEFT”

Those were the words spoken to Grant, as his wife Denise was recovering from stomach cancer surgery in 1996.

At this point, the prognosis was poor and even worse than expected.

Whilst there was immense hoping and praying, there wasn’t a great deal of hope, with Denise given a 10% chance of surviving 5 years.

Thirty years on and that would have been one heck of a holiday, as the days, weeks, months and years continue to grow.

Whilst the statistics suggested the wedding anniversaries were expected to have ended decades ago, today the couple mark 41 years of marriage.

It won’t be anything fancy or extravagant, rather a day of appreciation and gratitude for their good fortune, what has unfolded since, and the support they have received along that remarkable journey.

On days like this, the words Denise said to the surgeon all those years ago, seem to come to the fore. “Why can’t I be one of that 10%”

Denise “I chose not to let doubt and fear, stifle me or my longevity. I am grateful to have had the support around me that made that possible. I am very fortunate to have lived the life I have”
