The dining room with its gorgeous antique furniture is the perfect place to congregate for your evening meal with friends and family. Alternatively the BBQ area is perfect for alfresco cooking and dining with plenty of outdoor seating for everyone. The cottage lends itself to the views of the Elder Range where you can sit for hours watching the wildlife and natural beauty of this rugged landscape. There’s a different kind of history at Mount Little Station.
Not the polished museum kind. The kind written in stone walls, rusted iron, old fence lines and the silence between them.

Long before tourism, pizzas, sunsets and station stays, this country was shaped by pastoral families carving a life from remote outback land. Every tank, tool, hut and ruin across the property tells part of that story.

The thick stone buildings were built to survive brutal summers and icy winters. Rainwater tanks captured every precious drop. Machinery was repaired over and over because there was no “quick trip to town”. If something broke, you fixed it with grit, wire and determination.

Even today, you can still trace the rhythms of station life:
🐑 shepherd huts
💧 old water systems
🔧 weathered machinery
🏚️ fireplaces standing long after roofs disappeared
🌾 fence lines stretching into the horizon

And tucked quietly into the landscape nearby, the Hookina Cemetery reminds us that this wasn’t just a workplace. It was a community. A home. A life lived in one of Australia’s toughest and most beautiful landscapes.

We feel incredibly lucky to care for a small piece of this history and share it with visitors who come to experience the Flinders Ranges beyond the postcard.

Out here, the land remembers everything. 📜✨

You’ve shared campfires under starry Flinders skies, station sunsets, animal feeds, dusty boots and maybe even a few stories over a beer with us. 🔥🐑

If Mount Little Station became part of your adventure, we’d love to hear about it.

Reviews from past guests help small regional businesses like ours more than you might realise. They help future travellers find us and give others a glimpse into what station life is really all about.

If you’ve stayed with us, camped with us or visited along the way, we’d be incredibly grateful if you could leave us a quick review on Google or TripAdvisor.

Every review helps keep the station story rolling and helps us to make the experience even better. 🤍
