Summer is the odour in my tank season. This is a natural problem and it may be "something is dead in the tank", although more often it is the build up of organic materiel being broken down by bacteria in the lower reaches of the storage. The attached Aerating Stale Well Water is from a 1945 book reprinted in 1980, showing the problem has been with us always. Posted as well is the following article of one way to avoid the problem, please do not use a modern equivalent of a round up container to float the suction I once found in a tank.

Unfortunately there are guidelines for some of the forever chemicals in water, but the effects of many other plastic chemicals in water we do not know yet.

This is inside a 100,000L concrete drinking water tank which is about a year old. On the first day the tank was emptied and cleaned. On the second day the photo on the right shows a crescent of water which had entered the tank over night form under the tank, not rain. The video on the left is vacuuming to remove the last of the water on the second day to find the leaks and repair the tank.

110,000 L concrete tank filled with mud run off from earth works Turbidity 524 NTU. Jar tested required 800 mL per 10,000 L of Ferric Chloride to Floc the mud to the bottom. Final Turbidity 15 NTU.
