This petition of residents in Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Assembly the small-scale livestock farmers in Victoria are facing a devastating blow as Hardwicks (owned by Chinese multinational Kilcoy), has announced it will close its doors to service kills on 1 February 2025. This will decimate small-scale livestock farming and access to local meat in Victoria.

We’ve had an area around some dams fenced off from the sheep for around 2 years as we’ve been revegetating it with various native trees and shrubs, while also allowing native trees and grasses to emerge. We’ve got way to many gums coming up that need to be thinned but we have a number of areas of kangaroo grass that have sprung up.
The area is getting a big too over grown so we are crash grazing with our ewes that have just come off joining. The added benefit is there is a great amount of grass green gras for the ewes at a time when then paddocks have all browned off with the dry and heat we’ve had so late this late summer/early autumn.
As we rotational graze, we still have some areas on the property with feed, but it’s mostly low quality dry grass, but it means we’ve been able to carry 150 ewes without having to by feed.

Ted finally got to meet the girls this weekend. Looking forward to some awesome fat lambs to sell next year and possibly some hoggets also. Really want to see the difference of letting them grow out a bit to improve fat coverage and flavour.

Finally got us an old so we can press our wool before auction. It’s in rough condition and I’ve had to farm hack a few modifications, like the bottle jack used to straighten the middle pin channel. Fair old workout getting the wool pressed up!

We had planned to have orders pre-Christmas but unavailability with processors meant we had to delay but now unforeseen issues have meant we are unable to offer meat packs this year.

We have some very exciting news coming soon which we hope will make for a better product in the future. Stay tuned to our socials for the upcoming news.
