🍯 Healing Honey Balm 🍯

https://www.gathererforager.com/products/honey-healing-balm

Honey healing balm is great for those suffering itchy skin conditions. This balm provides a moisturizing and protective barrier on skin, and is typically used to alleviate conditions such as dry, irritated, flaky or cracked skin or aid in healing minor scratches, cuts and soothing eczema.

To make this balm I have gathered skin healing herbs of red clover, Lavender, Calendula and chickweed grown organically in our garden then slowly infused with olive oil before bieng blended with our gently harvested beeswax , honey and locally produced manuka essential oil

We use stainless steel in our extraction process and when we blend our honey with herbs.
The majority of beekeepers will use stainless steel in some parts of their honey harvesting with some exceptions.

It's absolutely fine and will not damage the enzymes of the honey like heating will!

Often I have messages along the lines of ' I really want to try your honey but I see you use metal in your honey so it's tainted '

It's not tainted it's beautiful raw cold extracted honey 🍯

I can see this beautiful lilac from our bedroom window.
We had a lilac in Oberon who taught me about lilac syrups, sugars and cooking with flowers. I was forever greatful to that tree and her teachings.
When we moved to Cygnet the syrup was finished and we missed having one around which is a blessing and a curse with renting you discover a new garden , new joys but say goodbye to familiar friends.
So when we moved to this property a bit over 8 years ago I was so pleased to see this strong lilac tree standing tall.
She's made lots of baby suckers who we are trying to dig up to plant elsewhere around the property.
Does anyone have any tips and tricks for doing this successfully ?

Who makes their own peanut butter?

A while ago we decided to take some more steps into reducing what we buy from shops and learnt how to make our own peanut butter.
We buy bulk peanuts from wholefoods stores and then it's just a simple matter of popping them in the food processor blitzing then adding a little oil and salt or honey to your taste.
It's really easy and always getting gobbled up!
If you want to be super fancy you can roast the peanuts first which gives you another depth of flavour.

I've often pondered if I should add some honey peanut butter blends to the store what do you think ?

As the rest of the garden begins to droop and drop, she continues to bloom. Calendula is a reminder that there is beauty in every transition.

She’ll always have a place in my garden, no matter where life takes me. Beyond her bright face, she is a gift to the bees and a powerhouse in the home apothecary. Easy to grow, impossible not to love.

Brother Adam said listen to the bees and let them guide you.

Somewhere along the line many bee keepers forgot this and instead listened to big business and big money.
As a result honey bees are really struggling and at great risk of pests and disease.

In Tasmania we are lucky as we don't have varroa mite here yet and biosecurity at our docks and borders are very onto keeping out the pests but our bees are still at risk of disease and pesticides and it's only a matter of time before Varroa makes it here too.

One of the reasons I wanted to create a bee sanctuary at is so the bees in our apairy don't need to go to far for forage so we can decrease their risk of disease. We are isolated enough here that I think our bees are fairly protected and they forage on a lot of medicinal herbs, cottage garden flowers, native flowers and we have a lot of mycelium around too.

It is now winter but it has been warm enough that I am still seeing some girls flying and visiting winter flowers.

What are your bees telling you right now ?
