This week the legends from are jumping over the ditch to join us for a mini Tassie road trip! Sure the limited release can artwork is tight, and the beers are A1. But there’s more to the WA outfit than that.

Traditionally, mezcals from different villages have their own distinctive flavours and aromas, which reflect the differences between distilleries, the soil, the local water sources, the wood used, and of course, the nuances created by the hand of the Maestro Mezcalero. Nuestra Soledad is a single village Mezcal that showcases the differences between the villages of Santiago Matatlán, La Compañía Ejutla, San Luis del Rio, and San Baltazar Guelavila. Nuestra Soledad roughly translates to our loneliness after ‘Our Lady the Virgin of Solitude’, the patron saint of the city of Oaxaca.

Each different village expression is made from 100% agave Espadín, by the producers of El Jolgorio mezcals, in Oaxaca, Mexico — to create the Nuestra Soledad Santiago Matatlan release Espadin that grows between 5,500-5,900 feet elevation in a mountain canyon that has incredible agave diversity — the Espadin used in this Mezcal grows among a sea of wild Tepeztate, Tobala, and Coyote agaves.

Expect a mezcal that has a mildly tropical fruit driven nose and sweet roasted agave character. Slightly spicy up front and herbaceous with generous length and balance.

Christmas has absolutely come early this year with the return of the Single Hop IPA series!

Spotty’s simple Single Hop grain bill and US-05 yeast work to create a well-balanced and crispy base while also still letting the malt character shine through. This is the easiest 8.8% IPA you’ll find.

Yep. You guessed it, Simcoe hops, lots of them, like actual heaps!

From the brewery:
“Punchy candied clementine (A North African type of tangerine) upfront follows through on the palette, rounding out with deeper citrus, pine, spice and a light earthy dankness. Glowing amber in the glass, the caramel and malt tones guide you to unexpected, pleasant sweetness on the palate, fading quickly to a refreshing, but not lingering, bitterness.”

It’s a limited release, in limited quantities, don’t sleep on this one!

You can now snag a 200ml bottle of sustainable spirits from .distilling.co, meaning that you’re now covered from mini bottles right up to 15L reusable bulk containers:

🧃 Juice Gin, is a collaboration between the and Endangered Distilling Co. — made from fermented surplus cold-pressed, unpasteurised juice (think apple, raspberry, pineapple, beetroot and watermelon!) leftover from various farmers markets attended around the state and the skins of peeled citrus. It’s a fruit forward (without being too fruity!) new-world style of gin that mixes equally well with soda or tonic water.

🍞 Endangered Distilling Co ‘Don’t feed the ducks’ Bread Vodka is made from salvaged bread, destined for the waste cycle, sourced from local Tasmanian bakeries.

And why call it ‘Don’t feed the ducks’ Bread Vodka? Well, bread provides little or no nutritional value for ducks, so that favourite childhood activity of feeding bread to them actually can do more harm than good as it causes excessive weight gain and malnutrition (among other problems) — the solution? Give the bread to EDC to make booze instead!

The first batch of .coffee Coffee + Spirit features the very essence of Brazilian naturally processed coffee, with rum’n’raisin, butterscotch and chocolate notes. A far cry from your standard coffee liqueur.

‘The Grada Way’ is a one-touch bottle pour that results in the perfect espresso martini, every time. Pour 100ml of Grada Coffee + Spirit into your favourite cocktail shaker, add ice and shake! With nothing else added you’ll highlight the inherent character of the coffee and the tight balance between sweetness, bitterness, aromatics and a faint savoury saltiness — all this plus speed of service, great GP, and consistency!

Make no mistake Grada Coffee + Spirit is an absolute game changer.

🍐 And Then There Was Two 🍐

Following up on the much loved turbo chook can design was always going to be a task, when coming up with a concept for their latest release decided to keep their ideas close to home. Both plovers and turbo chooks are found in their orchard regularly — plovers in particular are notorious for swooping; but they only really do this when they are protecting their young. You could say that they are great parents! And given that Alex and Gavin are at the beginning of their own parental journey you couldn’t really think of a better bird to rock on the new Perky Pear Cider tins!

Inside the can the team used packham and beurre bosc pears with a small amount of Tasmanian tiger fuji apples which provide a little bit of tannin. A Champagne yeast was chosen in particular for its strong fermentation characteristics.

Slightly sweeter than their Turbo Chook Cloudy Apple Cider, while still being wonderfully balanced. The tannin added by apple addition holds the palate while the pear gives a gorgeous fruity sweetness.

🍸 Punch & Ladle Medium Sweet Vermouth 🍸

A punchy, native vermouth from our mates at ! A base of Tasmanian red wine is fortified with re-distilled grape spirit then infused with botanicals including kunzea, Tasmanian pepperberry leaf, chamomile, orange, beetroot, cacao nibs and locally sourced wormwood. Once the base is sufficiently infused, the team sweetens to a modest 130g/L.

As a final flourish the vermouth is oxidatively aged, this helps to create a well-rounded and mature drink that mixes beautifully with both light and dark spirits — versatility which is super useful with the predictably unpredictable Tassie weather!
