A new partnership is bringing a little more warmth to the table.

We’re grateful to Ash and the team at the New Sydney Hotel for partnering with Food Not Bombs Hobart to help feed our community. Beginning next Saturday, the chefs at the New Sydney Hotel will be preparing a fresh hot curry each week, which we’ll collect straight from their kitchen and carry across the road to Criterion House to serve at our Shared Table community meal.

The curry will join the wonderful dishes prepared by our volunteers, creating an even bigger and better meal for everyone who comes along.

For over 10 years, Food Not Bombs Hobart has relied on local people, local businesses and volunteers working together to make sure nobody is left out. Partnerships like this show what can happen when a community pulls together.

A huge thank you to Ash and the New Sydney Hotel for stepping up and helping us share good food, friendship and hospitality with those doing it tough.

We’ll be serving the first curry next Saturday and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone around the table.

Today I dropped into Mutual Aid Kitchen at Mathers House in the Hobart C*D.

Every Sunday, this community-led mutual aid kitchen creates a welcoming space where people can share a meal, connect with others, and find a sense of belonging.

❤️ A little help that makes a big difference

Thanks to Fleur at Return2Community, we have a washing machine and fridge available to give free to someone doing it tough.

It’s a great example of what community can do when useful things are passed on to people who need them, rather than going to waste.

We’re experimenting with something new at Food Not Bombs Hobart.

Over the years we’ve learned that food relief is important, but so is creating opportunities for people to earn a little extra income, build confidence, learn practical skills, and connect with others. We’re starting a small community woodcraft project where people can work on simple products that may become part of a future side hustle.

Our first project is handmade Huon Pine spatulas, crafted from beautiful Tasmanian timber.

To help get them out into the community, we’re offering a free Huon Pine spatula to anyone who:

✅ Subscribes at FNBHobart.org
✅ Comes along to a Shared Table event to collect it

There is no catch. We simply want more people connected with what we’re building, receiving updates, and becoming part of the community.

This is a trial project and numbers are limited, so get in early.

Tonight was the first-ever Food Not Bombs Hobart Street Feed at the Domain BBQs.

We kept it simple. A table, some flyers, a few conversations, and a commitment to be here every Friday at dusk.

Recent conversations have highlighted a growing community of people sleeping rough in the Domain area. While we are still learning about the needs and size of this community, we believe regular presence and relationship-building matter.

Tonight wasn’t about serving large numbers. It was about showing up, introducing the idea, and taking the first step.

Special thanks to Pete, who will be helping spread the word through the streets and existing community networks over the coming week.

This was night one. Ground zero.

We’ll be back next Friday at dusk.

The Long Road to Kindness: A Food Not Bombs Story

❄️ It’s a cold time of year, especially for those living in backpacker hostels or without stable housing.

These two friends (video) receive hot meals from FNBs Hobart — but just as important, we’ve been able to provide them with dry food stocks to help them get through the week.

Thanks to donations and support, from Glen we’re not just serving meals — we’re helping people stay fed day by day.

Solidarity means showing up, sharing resources, and making sure no one is forgotten.
