The Director of Gourmand Providore, Abboud Jraij, has had a passion for fruit and vegetables for over 20 years, having owned numerous fresh food outlets in the Sydney Metropolitan Area. Having established his credentials and infrastructure, a natural extension was formation of a composite business model and Gourmand Providore was formed in 1990 to provide clients with a complete solution to their

fruit and vegetable needs. Today, Gourmand Providore operates through a new warehouse located in
Sydney Markets that features state of the art cool room and cool storage facilities. Developing and maintaining close relationships with clients from the loading dock through to the kitchen is one of the main goals at Gourmand Providore. While the company continues to grow at a steady rate, access to management personnel is still assured at all times, as well as competitive pricing that entails no compromise on quality. Gourmand Providore’s customers range from Government institutions, clubs, hotels and retirement villages to smaller hospitality outlets such as restaurants and cafés. Being based at Sydney Markets gives us access to hundreds of growers and suppliers every day.

That means when quality changes, supply tightens or something special arrives, our buyers can look beyond the obvious and find the best option for our customers.

Sometimes the value of a produce supplier isn't just what they have — it's what they can find.

Great value continues across broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, eggplant, iceberg lettuce and green capsicums. Beans, corn, Australian asparagus and broad beans are all improving, while strawberries and blueberries are in excellent supply. Pineapples are finally easing, QLD watermelons have started and new season NT mangoes are building. Citrus is also performing strongly across the market.

Spring is almost here — and with it comes the opportunity to start lightening up the menu.

Think charred vegetables instead of heavy braises, fresh herbs, vibrant slaws, citrus dressings and simply grilled proteins.

Keep the flavour, bring in the colour and let seasonal produce do the work.

Broccoli, cauliflower, silverbeet and rainbow chard all have one thing in common — there’s more to use than the obvious parts.

Stems can be shaved into salads, pickled, roasted, added to stocks or cooked alongside the rest of the vegetable.

More flavour, more texture and better yield from every box.
