Platypus Monitoring on the Mackenzie River
Bun-nah (Mackenzie River) runs through Jardawadjali country, from the northern Grampians Gariwerd down through the plains until it meets the Wimmera River at Horsham.
As you follow the track along Bun-nah, you are following the creation story of Tchingal the emu and Waar the crow.
BGLC's Scotty Marks is working with partners Wimmera CMA and EnviroDNA on an important research project to monitor the health of playtpus populations along key locations of Bun-nah.
The work our team is undertaking will help identify where populations are located and their movement from year to year.
The platypus holds cultural significance for the Wotjobaluk Nations, as a part of the river’s ecological story.
