Hi all, time to break the sad news, we have made the call that we will not be able to open this year..

Unfortunately the weather has beaten us again, with low rain fall when we needed it, and what rain we did get was late so did more damage than good. Add this to the frost early in the season that took most of the fruit, this has left us with no chestnuts this year for open days.

The Hoskinstown chestnut roast on Mother’s Day at the war memorial hall will still go ahead, but beyond that we will not have any chestnuts till 2027..

Hope to see you all next year..

It is with great sadness that we advise we have made the heartbreaking decision to close our 2025 Chestnut season..

The weather has not been friendly this year, and has confused the trees about what season it is, as the trees flowered in spring like they should, but they have not really moved into Autumn, and then adding in the lack of rain, meaning the fruit is small and under-developed for where it should be at this time of the year..

On top of this the cockatoo’s this year have ignored all our attempts to move them on and have destroyed what little fruit was developing, all leading to a non-productive year…

Given all this, instead of catching up with all the Chestnut picking visitors that we love seeing each year, we are going to dedicate our time to preparing for next year, and working out how to uninvite all the Chestnut loving cockatoo’s that think they should get the nuts and not you…

Thank you for all your support over the last few years, and we look forward to catching up for the 2026 season…

We are often asked what are the essentials for Chestnut picking, and the answer is leather gloves and good sturdy shoes.. Burrs are very sharp and will stick into skin, so gloves and shoes are the best way to stay safe..

We thought we were getting close but the warm dry weather has slowed progress slightly.. We are busy at the moment keeping the cockatoos off the Chestnuts but hopefully soon the chestnuts will ripen enough so you can get more than the cockatoos are..

Stay tuned for more updates..

The beginning of the growing season is always a busy time at Tweenhills, but sometimes we just need to stop and admire the growth, and when you do that you realise how quickly this season is approaching..

The chestnuts are already getting big, and there appears that there may be a lot this year..

We are looking forward to seeing everyone again this year enjoying the Chestnuts..
