Keeping your eye on the ladies to make sure they’re OK while calving is very important, so too is a critical eye over the health of the calves on a daily basis looking for signs of illness. They can go down very quickly if they dehydrate.

It’s a great day anyway being ANZAC but even better when you come across healthy baby calves

Update on first calf born. Her Mum loves her and they are both happily back in the herd of pregnant cows. She will have lots of mates to play with as they are born

This little girl calf is the first born for 2026 born early this morning. Her Mum is a heifer, and abandoned her baby. We have confined them together in hope that the Mum will learn to bond with her baby overnight. So far baby has had Mums colostrum and a second feed (only because Mum was the crush with her back leg tied back to stop her from kicking baby away. She is still pushing baby away, hasn’t licked her at all, so if no progress in the next 24 hrs, the baby will need to be hand reared and Mum moved on and out. Any breeders have advice that may assist with them bonding?

Spring 2024 Heifers out and about

26/03/2026

This young mob were weaned in Jan 2026. They went onto this crop of Sorghum which had previously been cut and baled for feed. Once the rains came at the end of Feb that crops growth took off again to nearly 5 feet tall in a matter of a few weeks. I could hardly see the weaners. We got a second cut for silage bales which provided even more bales than the first cut. These yearlings are off to a great start.
