A few hot days this week and back into the summer swing again. Cattle are holding their weight well. Ava is 8 weeks off calving and both cows have lovely dark red coats which is one of our favourite things about the maine breed.

This lovely now dark coated 2016 drop cow 4 mths incalf to her 6th calf. Showing longevity which is all through her pedigree. She has produced 2 Royal Show winning sons so we are excited to see what she produces us this time!

It's not a bad end to the 2023 show season. Doing Euroa Autumn Show, Melbourne Royal and Numurkah show this year with our maines was a blast and great results for our stud. We plan on attending a few shows again next year. Until then, joining Jackie for a spring calf next year and our 2 other cows due next summer/autumn.

Numurkah show 2023

We attended the Numurkah show for the first time in 3 years. We have shown many of our Maines here and at the autumn beef festivals. After taking Jasper Talisman for a run at the Royal we took our other heifer we have been working on for a spin; Jackie. She did exceptionally well and judge commented on her lovely softness and height for her age. My sister Tara took her out for her handlers and she did exceptionally well for her getting Tara 2nd in a good sized class for her 1st time she had ever shown a cow and for Jackie's first show too!

The 2 pregnant cows enjoying a snack. We can't wait to see our calf crop next year. These 2 are pretty plump and shouldn't struggle too much this summer. Maines are well known for their feed conversion and efficiency compared to other breeds, making them a good choice to put the back ends on vealers whilst remaining a low birthweight. Many breeds have Maines in their ancestory, including Limousin, Herefords, shorthorns and many more.
