Something is happening at Geraghty Park. Yesterday the oval was sitting there looking ridiculously beautiful. The money shot of the mountains, the sky, the clouds and the glorious place.

Inside the Hall, people were printing, sorting, making and getting things ready. The signs are appearing. The merch is piling up.

The program is full.

Musicians are tuning up. Makers are packing. Art is rolling in for the exhibition. Last minute performers are submitting applications. Volunteers are doing the thousand little jobs that turn an idea into an actual Fair.

And in nine days, that beautiful empty oval won't be empty anymore.

There'll be stalls and music and art and kids and workshops and food and dancing and people everywhere.

Speaking of food... plot twist. 😬

One of our food vendors has had to pull out due to a family emergency, which means we've got room in our Food Court.

So we're putting the Bushy Creek bat signal out.

If you're a food truck, café, caterer, restaurant or local food business or a community organisation looking for a fundraiser BBQ opportunity and fancy popping up at the Fair, we'd love to hear from you.

No site fee. No commission. One day or both.
You bring the food. We'll bring the hungry humans.

And because this is how community works, we'd love everyone else to help us find them.

Know someone? Tag them. Share this. Send it to your favourite food people.

Nine days, Bushy Creek.

It's starting to feel very, very real.

My Balanced Bowl | Sunday at Bushy 🥗

Come hungry… My Balanced Bowl has plans for you.

Based in Mossman, My Balanced Bowl is all about transforming nutritious ingredients into food that is genuinely delicious, with a particular knack for proving eating healthy doesn’t have to feel like punishment, and ‘vegan’ and ‘gluten-free’ doesn’t have to mean ‘boring’ 🤗

They source locally wherever possible and choose organic ingredients when affordable, with a pretty simple philosophy: good food should be nourishing, accessible AND actually taste good (which feels reasonable)

Alongside the food you’ll find at Bushy, My Balanced Bowl also offers group and individual cooking demonstrations, catering for small to medium events, and meals reacted specifically for people with restricted diets.

Find My Balanced Bowl at Bushy on Sunday 20 September and taste for yourself 🥗

A little disclaimer: the menu shown is a sample only and final Bushy menu may vary. Everything on their sample Bushy menu is vegan and gluten free - except the panda cake which contains eggs.

🌟 CALLING OUR MINI MAKERS! 🌟

We have counted and recounted and we have one stall available at the Bushy Creek Makers’ Fair, and we’re thinking of our local kids and young people!

Sell something you’ve made, baked or grown: garden goodies, seedlings, flowers, cakes, cookies, paintings, jewellery, cards, crafty creations or weird little inventions.

Here are the rules:

🧡 You’ll share the Mini Makers stall with other young sellers.
🧡 You’ll need to commit to running it for a few hours over the weekend.
🧡 You must be comfortable handling money and serving customers.
🧡 A trusted adult from our community will be there to help at all times (this might be your mum or dad stepping up - hint hint) and can mind your goodies if you need to step away.

You don’t need enough stock to fill a whole table. Bring what you have and experience the fun of running a real market stall!

Interested? Send us a message with your Mini Maker’s name, age, what they’d like to sell and when they’re available.

One of the fabulous raffle/auction prices up for grabs at the Fair. Support from our small business community has been amazing!

How do you like your chilli? Mild, spicy or flat out lethal like an angry platypus.

Two weeks to go... and Bushy has started handing out flowers to everyone he meets🌼(we'd recommend bringing a reusable bag instead. You'll probably need it)

Take a look through the program, pick a few favourites and leave a little room for the unexpected - that's usually where the magic happens ✨

Meet the Maker | Tarina-Rose – Jagun Jili 🌿

For Tarina-Rose, weaving has never just been about making something.

A Bundjalung Minjungbul woman, Mother, Auntie, maker and weaver, Tarina-Rose lives and creates across FNQ, weaving baskets and objects through Jagun Jili using native fibres and natural materials.

Her weaving circles and workshops are places to slow down, learn together and connect to country - continuing a practice she describes as both a thread to ancestors and a path to healing.

And at the centre of it is all community.
“I don’t weave alone. I weave to gather people, to share stories, to learn from elders and each other.”

That same idea is whats bringing Tarina-Rose to Bushy this September.
For her, sharing the work in person is where it comes alive. Gathering together, exchanging knowledge and creating something meaningful alongside one another and we can’t wait for you all to meet her 💚

What kind of music will be at Bushy Creek Makers’ Fair, you ask?
The answer is yes 🎶

We’ve got folk. We’ve got rock. We’ve got indie. We’ve got blues. We’ve got acoustic. We’ve got the music to dance to, music to sit back and listen to and music that may cause spontaneous foot tapping.
And, as Bushy calls it, we’ve even got some of ‘the hip and the hop’ (we don’t have the heart to correct him) 🎤🦆

There’ll be tunes across the Main Stage, outdoor stage, sounds drifting out from the Men’s Shed Bar, and the quieter kind played around the campfire toward the end of the day.

Across the weekend, Bushy is bringing together local and regional musicians, young performers, seasoned favourites and a fairly impressive collection of people who know what they’re doing with instruments.

No algorithm. No playlist. No shuffle button.
Just real people making real music, together, in a park in Julatten 🌿

Meet the face behind Paco Festive Food 🥗

Julian gre up in Machans Beach in the 90s, among what he affectionately describes as a 'motley crew', consisting of tradesmen, artists, fisherman, scientists, musicians, vagrants and just about everyone in between.

Some had plenty. Others were just holding things together. but there was one thing everyone knew:
"if something went wrong, most doors in Machans Beach would open to help.
Whether its raising children, improving the area, or helping an individual in need; a community walks through life together"

This September, Julian is brining Paco Festive Food to Bushy, serving up Latin-inspired food and doing his bit for another time-honoured community tradition:
"Making sure nobody has to walk through life hungry" 🌮

Come hungry, we suspect following the smell will take care of the rest 😋
