PADDOCK TO PLATE SUCCESS
As the term wraps up today, our community is still on a high after the annual Boonah State High School Paddock to Plate Gala, which showcased the hard work of every department - hospitality, music, trade and, in particular, the ag students we support.

As a fellow grower, we couldn't be prouder to see the student's harvest from the school's Ag Patch plated up for this sold-out event.

Our partnership with the school means we've had the chance to get to know the students as they've progressed through the ag curriculum, including a special check-in on their carrots 🥕🥕🥕

There have also been lessons in Kalfresh paddocks and tours through our Kalbar factory this term, so students can see the whole supply chain from seed to store and all the job opportunities available close to home.

We're delighted to be one of many local businesses supporting our next generation of ag leaders.

Our Bioenergy project has been years in the planning so it's exciting to see it taking shape on site at Kalbar.
Earlier this month we filmed the concrete pour for our first WELTEC BIOPOWER anaerobic digestion tank.
We worked with locals - builders CF & JE Miles Building Contractors, Boonah Concrete and Extreme Pumping - to deliver the 32-metre wide circular slab.
When complete, the bioenergy system will transform food and farm waste and rotational cover crops into a versatile, renewable gas which can be used for heat, power and as a truck and bus fuel.
We'll use the by-product, digestate, as a fertiliser on our farms.
Closing the loop, value-adding food waste. 🙌

KANE & T909 ONIONS NATIONALLY RECOGNISED
Australia's premier truck show in Casino was looking for a 'hardworking rig and someone who lives and breathes trucking' and boy, did they find that in Kane Beutel and Kalfreight's Kenworth T909, number plate ONIONS.

Kane was awarded the 'Rising Beast Award' for his presentation, pride and passion for this truck and the sheer workload they get through each week transporting fresh produce to market and moving farming equipment to where it needs to be.

To the untrained eye, you might not see Kane's week-long preparations, particularly for a working prime mover.

"Lots of busted knuckles, getting covered in grease and dirt while scrubbing the underside of things that usually wouldn't be seen, and repainting parts that no longer matched the factory red chassis." - Kane

The final touches went down to the wire, but ONIONS was a standout on the day and showcased just how meticulous Kane is, a trait that's most certainly genetic.

The Beutels are a generational trucking family who have been carting our veggies since Kalfresh started in 1992. Every one of them takes such pride in their machines, Gavin, Darren and Kane with trucks, and Kye in the tractors.

This is an award for Kane and a nod to the Beutel family!

SOLID FOUNDATIONS FOR SIGNIFICANT IMPACT
Our Kalfresh Bioenergy project has hit a significant milestone – the successful pour of a 32-metre wide circular concrete slab which will support our first anaerobic digester tank.
The Kalfresh project team worked closely with local building company CF & JE Miles Building Contractors to pour approx. 161 cubic metres of low shrink concrete.
Boonah Concrete supplied the concrete across 22 trucks and pumping was by local Purga company Extreme Pumping.
Everyone involved understood the significance of the job – it’s a slab that will hold up to 7000 tonnes of weight as the digestion tank fills with biomass feedstocks such as agricultural and food waste, which will convert to renewable energy.
Anaerobic digestion is a natural biological process that breaks down organic waste in a sealed tank without oxygen to create renewable biogas and fertiliser.
The biogas is versatile and can be used for heat, electricity and vehicle fuel.
The team started pouring at dawn, one pour, 200mm deep, no joins.
Each load was tested on site for strength and shrinkage before the pour.
The bioenergy tank equipment is being supplied by German bioenergy specialists Weltec Biopower and will start taking shape from mid September.

EMILY’S OUR NEW HEAD OF SALES
We're proud to announce the promotion of long-term team member Emily Green as our new Head of Sales.
Emily has grown with our business and in this new role she is responsible for managing sales growth across all crops and categories.
Great people are at the heart of our success, and Emily's progression from graduate to executive is another example of the internal career pathway Kalfresh supports and encourages.
Emily's journey with Kalfresh began when she joined us direct from university as Assistant Category Manager Organics, armed with a Bachelor of Agribusiness from the University of Queensland.
“I’m passionate about sustainable farming,” Emily explains.
“Having grown up on a generational apple farm near Stanthorpe, I’ve always felt it was important to stay connected to the land and work with growers.”
Emily’s focus and drive meant she was soon promoted to Category Manager for our sweet corn and green bean crops.
It’s not always easy managing volatile crops and challenging weather, but Emily has been a critical link in our team, managing supply from four farming regions to ensure consistent and seamless supply to our customers.
Earlier this year Emily was promoted to Head of Category Trading and now she is our Head of Sales.
“I've learned so much working alongside our growers and customers over the years, and I'm excited to keep building on that. This is a real team effort, we have a very experienced sales team and some new recruits getting settled in. I'm looking forward to what we can achieve together.”

LUKE SHARES THE STORY OF OUR HUMBLE HERO, THE CARROT 🥕🥕

We welcomed star and former NRL player Luke Bateman , to the farm recently to share the story of a humble hero, the carrot.
Luke is working with ALDI Australia to share the stories behind the fresh produce on the store shelves.
Like Luke, we love a great story and farming is full of them.
Most days it’s a real life 'Choose your Own Adventure' tale, full of highs and lows, challenges and opportunities.
Luke chatted with Farmer Mick Rieck and harvester operator Brett Stephan to learn how we grow amazing carrots for customers like Aldi.

We asked Brett Stephan, who’s been harvesting our veg since 2006, to share his thoughts on why it’s such a great job.

If you like the look of Brett's office ... we're looking for someone to jump into our Oxbo harvesters for green beans and sweet corn.

We harvest these two crops 12-months of the year in two locations - Bowen & Ayr in North Queensland during winter and Kalbar & Tent Hill over summer.
