Did you know the AVERAGE of Australian is around 7000km?

Did you know our food miles - when you buy a bulk 1/4 pack from the is under 1% of that!

That’s not a typo- it’s due to being bloody big and the we have in Australia being near the cities that provide the workforce and logistics those factories need (plus the fact that export makes up such a large part of our industry and that overseas transit counts).

This 7000km food miles differs from because (by some weird arithmetic) this massive distance pales into insignificance as only 4% of the “emissions” attributed to beef production.

This of course is largely 🐂💩as calculators count cow burps as on one side of the equation but neglects to calculate both photosynthesis of the grassfed livestock production pastures (in converting CO2 to O2) nor the C sequestration role of plants managed properly grazing systems (nor many other things like “trees” in putting carbon into the soil: however are something for another day as they are a whole can of worms that no-one wants to open.

Animals play an integral role in managing green and without them those same plants would be , or requiring massive human or every day. These actions become sources of REAL emissions producing long term negative environmental impacts.

While we hope that one day the calculators will catch up to the basic rules of thermodynamics (and Yr 7 Science), we CAN look at our Food Miles impact right now.

So food miles from the birth of our cattle right through to the abattoir and back to our own butchery at Kandanga Farm Store is EXACTLY 65km from

This is potentially the lowest of any branded beef business in Australia (legal one anyway).

As a result we are less exposed to price shocks or from or seasonal interruptions.

This isn’t by accident- we chose to move from western Qld 20 years ago to the (without the economies of scale we were used to) but with less droughts and lower food miles (and a huge population of potential customers on our doorstep).

We chose to be Certified Organic & Grassfed for health benefits but in doing so, have limited our reliance on overseas produced synthetic inputs.

And recently (as part of our accreditation) we committed to begin electrifying our farm vehicles, whilst improving capacity for on-farm pumping, meat refrigeration and electric fencing.

While it annoys me my cows are still ruminating 😂- we have breeds and types that & without external feeds ( ) and as we build our pasture diversity we use these climatically adapted animals to build soil.

So as part of being “shockproof” in land stewardship - “we’d be stuffed without them”!

After many years of not having “local” ( ) outlets for our K2 Organic Beef- twice in just a few weeks REAL, LOCAL bred, raised and processed beef will be on the menu at ! Good on Friends of Amamoor for making the effort to source beef locally - talk about - if we had an Mary Valley Rail Trail Association Inc we could actually walk stock every step and have a ZERO FOOD MILES meal!

Food for this Cheers & Beers will be an Italian theme with homemade Lasagna and Spaghetti Bolognaise (prepared by our amazing hard-working Friends of Amamoor Volunteers).

Organic Beef Prices are on the increase due to most supply coming from areas with transport problems due to flooding or diesel price and availability issues.

1/4 Body Beef Packs of our beef (from cattle bred and raised on our Mary Valley farms and cut up in our own ) are back from Kandanga Farm Store.

$990 (Bulk Price) for approx 40kg- supplied cryovaced, frozen and labelled product as below…

🍳10kg Sausages (Variety- all GF - no fillers, sausage meals, traditional skins- not synthetic)

This is actual product entirely grassfed without additives & preservatives in sausages (or other cuts).

Bodies are processed through a certified organic abattoir then butchered inhouse (onfarm) at our own (Accredited) real butcher shop! (The only one north of Brisbane).

When you buy our - it isn’t an online platform or middleman butcher you are supporting!

We are who just happen to produce bloody fantastic food (while we improve the environment, rehydrate our landscapes, fight for a cleaner food system and knock down the brick wall that exists between food producers and those who need us a few times a day)- but still seemingly have little knowledge- really- about how the one essential of life is being produced.

We’d love to see a review of many of the disproportionate encumbrances on small-scale producers.

As and beef producers we feel there are many improvements that could be made.

As of , the increasing centralisation and homogenisation of supply channels in the name of “convenience” and “Food Safety” scares the crap out of us.
