Front line! Each year, across the farms, the Kandanga Farm Store or the K2 Organic Beef business, we seem to end up in front of a camera or microphone numerous times telling our story or commenting on something.

This isn’t (usually) something we seek out (when we have something we think is incredibly important it’s almost impossible to get coverage), but we’ve met some good people (copped a fair bit of hate too) in trying to get the general public to know where their food comes from and how to eliminate poisons from the food system.

So when Bruce and his Amateur Film group called about the the idea of another wasted day in the name of “industry good” didn’t seem that appealing.

What they came back with was a “very” short film on K2 Organic Beef that screened as part of a whole lot of short films in Newfarm (ironically) a few weeks ago.

When we started out in Beef we did it without land (or cattle!).

We leased land and stocked it with cattle owned by small scale investors (hundreds of them) and for 20 years (in partnership with a long term thinker neighbour) we had a system called The Beef Stock Market. We won national awards and scaled it across 4 states and 16 large farms.

Eventually, with the help of a third job, we bought our own small block of land in the Mary Valley and built a shed to live in; as values increased and opportunities arose (and lenders cooperated) another and another.

We now have no investors owning cattle or land (except our bank) and have built a foundation to feed more people locally and ethically produced food.

We have a herd of animals we love and land we cherish.

We could easily have taken a different path with the investment vehicle we set up- but it FEELS so much better doing it this way. Small Scale, Local, vertically intergrated and ethical (more on what that means coming soon).

This isn’t the normal route to being a farmer in Australia….

We’ve been asked by conscious consumers on the Northern Sunshine Coast, & areas how they can get more convenient access to ? Our model is to support resellers rather than having home delivery vans going all over the place.

So now there’s a solution that gives you access to REAL & LOCAL Certified Organic, Grassfed beef, Bred, Raised & Processed from in the Mary Valley.

So give these guys a go- they are pedantic about only sourcing the most ethical food and getting it to your door. (Also a small family business like us- which we ❤️!)

Well that was a long day (with Jet lag).

Thanks to our rent-a-crowd for coming out to Kandanga Farm Store for Channel 9 filming day.

Due to a drone in a tree and a few unforeseen alterations to program, our “farm walk” was a bit lack lustre for those who made the effort to come and be a rent-a-crowd; - as it turned out coming from as far away as the home of Australia 2025 Yan Yan Gert West - Vic).

Others from Brisbane and the coast at least got to try some sausages and get a great morning of QLD winter sunshine!

Anyway thanks for playing along and going with the flow as pocket rocket Victoria and cameraman (drone pilot and tree climber) Scotty from Channel Nine Brisbane did their thing.

In an age of convenience we are expected to have beef supply all year round. Meat, like all food, is seasonal. We plant multi-species cover crops, manage our rotations and sell frozen which enables us to avoid grain feeding as the primary way of evening out production cycles.

Freezing means less while more are locked in.

For you, as customers it means slightly less convenience at cooking time (defrosting should be done IN THE FRIDGE over at least 24 hours, but much more convenience at purchasing time as the pressure to use immediately* is off.

For landscapes it means we can move with seasons, doing larger processing runs when pasture is best. Things to think about!
