🥂Let’s talk Chardonnay.🥂
Chardonnay was one of the first varieties planted here at Coolangatta Estate back in the late 80s. Not long after, it won us our very first wine award — a moment that proved this patch of land at the foot of Mount Coolangatta could grow fruit with real character and quality.
So why does Chardonnay work so well here in the Shoalhaven? Our vineyard sits in a maritime climate, only a few kilometres from the ocean. That sea influence keeps things cooler, giving the fruit natural acidity and freshness, while the long, mild growing season lets flavours slowly develop. It means our Chardonnay holds its balance beautifully — bright and crisp, but still generous in flavour.
Today, we make Chardonnay in two styles. Our still Chardonnay is fruit-driven with just the right touch of oak — perfect with a roast chicken or a simple cheeseboard. We also craft a Brut Sparkling Chardonnay, crisp and elegant, the wine that shows up at weddings, Christmas tables and long lunches that stretch into the evening.
From those first vines to that first award, and through every vintage since, Chardonnay has told the story of this land, this climate, and our family’s connection to both.
You can taste our Chardonnay at the Coolangatta Estate Cellar Door, enjoy it with lunch at Bistro Alexander’s, or order a bottle (or two) through our website.
