Kerfuffle Wines

Kerfuffle Wines is situated in the pristine hamlet of Karridale, the most southern subregion within the Margaret River GI. Located 34 degrees south in a oceanic peninsular location, this unique mesoclimate gives us the advantage of moderating heat events; preserving the delicate phenolics in our whites and enhancing the spice and savoury characters in our reds. The vineyard is planted on our fifth

generation family farm that was part of the group settlement scheme when the South West was first opened up to agriculture in the early 1940’s. The farm was primarily used for wool and prime lamb production until 1997 when the first 2 ha of Semillon grape vines were planted. The following years have seen plantings of Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc, Viogner, Muscat, Savagnin Blanc and a recent planting of Gin Gin clone Chardonnay which 4th generation Ben McDonald and partner Sasha hope to make a sparkling wine from. We care about the land, and our children's health, and thus we endeavour to use sustainable farming methods to promote a healthy, balanced ecosystem. Sheep graze amongst the vines for 6 months after harvest in order to control weed pressure as well as improving soil productivity by adding extra nutrients to the cycle. Bug pressure under vine is taken care of by our chickens whilst beneficial bugs are seeded into the vine canopy for bunch protection. We believe that our approach from ground to glass results in a wine with a greater expression of site. Kerfuffle - a commotion, disturbance or fuss. Commotion - "There's going to be a hell of a commotion when
I find out who had the last glass!"

Disturbance - "Hmmm .... only one glass of Kerfuffle left, now
that really is disturbing!"

Fuss - "Should I drink the last glass now .... or later .... what if
someone else drinks it .... what if the cat knocks it over
and I lose the lot?!"
