Brazil holds the world’s greatest diversity of stingless bees, and this is reflected in their remarkable range of sizes. In this example, a tiny 2 mm bee is compared with a species that can reach 17 mm, showing the extraordinary diversity and complexity of Meliponini in Brazil and beyond. Source: Giorgio Venturieri.

Meliponini Biology and Diversity:
Partamanona testacea. By Giorgio Venturieri. Stingless bees have developed a remarkable diversity of strategies to protect themselves from natural enemies. One particularly ingenious example is found in the Amazonian Partamona testacea. This species builds a subterranean nest with an upper false chamber, where it places small amounts of food and other structures.
