Bye bye Alfred! Lots of rain - about 350mm - and gale force winds from the ex-cyclone. We kept the cattle on the protected western side of the mountain so they were fine with the inclement weather; the rainforest lost a lot of leaf canopy and some medium size trees, and a few eucalypts on the forest edge lost their footing as well. Just an access track to clear, and two fences to stand up, and everything will be back to normal. Very glad we got off so lightly compared to the damage from ex-tropical cyclone Oswald in 2013. Oswald was more rain, stronger winds but the real problem was the rain came first. The soil was so wet when the wind arrived the forest giants fell. Huge swathes of the rainforest lay on the ground.
Thanks Alfred - you were kind to us. Wind first and rain second.... who would think that the order matters!!
