A pause in finch related bedlam and social media activities is now in effect for a little while. Resolution perhaps, or a bit of mindful decluttering.

I’ve chosen to invest time in family, cull a farm loft full of all kinds of treasures (and probably a lot of trash) and set up new business venture in the coming months. How I will miss baking and creating during this time.

If you don’t hear from me, it’s not because I don’t want to have a chat. I’ll be in state of suspended animation, lost in the drudgery of unpleasant tidying (an unappealing thought - working only with spiders in a farm loft!). But the value of a clean slate (mentally, physically and metaphorically) is a great motivator and will embody change, or so I keep telling myself to cope with the looming period of ‘SOD’ (Severe Oven Deprivation).

I’ll be back eventually….! Probably will develop a skin rash from the spider webs (and YES I’m stealing my bro’s ventolin to cope with the dust I’ll be stirring up!). Love Katie (and a number of seriously upset spiders) x

2025, what a year! Thank you so much for all your support. It’s been ups and downs for FF. I’m looking forward to waking through the door to 2026 (I might look like a tray of dropped cupcakes but guys, we made it!). Memorable moments from my year…

Online pre-order bake sales and markets were much more quieter this year, but community support was always there 🫶🏻

Visitors helped me so much. I couldn’t have done it without them! They mostly worked for their accommodation / did working holidays! 😂

I had some fantastic help this year from two juniors, Laura and Alexa. They also have brilliant taste in music; proving young people are cool / can connect with old people like me!

My amazing husband, Mum and beautiful kids provided so much love and support again this year. It’s been a juggle with farm and family commitments but we still made Fat Finch fit in there (just!). Few pressure point moments for sure… 🥴

This was my final year of making wedding cakes (much of my biz here was via Silke - thank you my dear friend!!). Wedding caking is a real honour; this was the biggest and best year yet! But it’s time to hang up the crank spatula 🫶🏻

This year I had multiple setbacks personally and professionally. But it all came out in the wash. To put it all in perspective, my daughter Evie gave us the ultimate ride, winding up in Perth Children’s Hospital for weeks with Steven’s Johnson Syndrome / TEN. Evie’s humour, spirit and determination serves as a reminder for what’s most important in life and my own endeavours.

I got to be involved in a few community celebrations, farewells and bittersweet moments. I’ve cried as much as I laughed baking in 2025. Maybe I’m getting older and more emotional; maybe it’s the sleep deprivation? But I feel deeply connected to my customers through my baking and that in itself embodies my values and why continue to pursue what I love - making soul food.

It’s with great hope 2026 will allow me to go in a new direction with a fresh business project (which continues to evolve more organically than I would like!). For now it’s a little pause and a rest from the fu***ng oven!

I’m late as per usual! Festive wishes and many thanks to our wonderful customers, friends and community for the support this season and my biggest Christmas period yet. It is an honour to pursue my little dream and be part of so many celebrations at Christmas time. Food (to me) is soulful and family. Sharing a meal with those we love is truly special and it’s a real privilege to do what I do, from my home farm kitchen here in Kununurra! Much love from my family to yours. Katie x

THE OVEN IS STILL ON 🔥

Festive greetings from the kitchen of my home based business at the eleventh jingle bell hour! I am still flitting about like a hyper finch on a pogo stick, piping, mixing and baking, sprinkles all over the floor (a Home Alone scene for sure). There is even a makeshift wrapping station this year for all things Finch! It looks like an elf of the shelf let it rip in that part of the Finch realm (but that’s a problem for tomorrow me, not ‘currently baking’ me).

If you’re planning to outsource something YUM for your festive lunch table, or you need a tiny jar of preserve to suff a stocking, drop me a line! Festively fat is my middle name 🌟

Minimum baking volumes are required for once off fresh items, however some goodies such as fruitcakes and cupcakes are already on my bake run for early next week.

There is still plenty of fantastic stock left online including mini cakes, puddings, preserves, cordial, chocolate (restocked but almost gone again!) and my annual Christmas treat box for 2025 (which will be revealed soon in my stories).
NEED YOUR GOODIES SOONER / LATER? The entire bake sale range will be available by Thursday morning, so leave a message for me in the checkout and I’ll contact you to arrange delivery. All food items have final finishing touches (or are made fresh!); extra notice for deliveries is very much appreciated.

My hazelnut dukkah is made with freshly roasted nuts, pepitas, sesame seeds and a fragrant blend of toasted spices. Perfect to sprinkle on breakfast eggs, avo, crumb a roast beef or dry dip with EVOO & bread.

Mango, pumpkin and spiced rum chutney is made with locally grown produce, notably, our tree ripened mangoes (pictured) that are luscious and bursting with sweetness. A flavoursome little kick is also in there courtesy of the generous dash of The Hoochery’s Five Rivers Spiced Rum and a little cayenne pepper. This chutney pairs dreamily with Persian feta and crackers.

I have restocked both these products in the last 24 hours on my website with fresh batches, ready for delivery as of Monday next week. Just make a note in the checkout when and where you’d like your delivery around Knx township and I’ll confirm your drop off time with you after you place your order. Also available to collect at my bake sale on Friday morning, 19 December 🥭
