Mill Farm Kurrajong

Mill Farm Kurrajong "MILL FARM" is a small family farm in the Kurrajong Hills (Hawkesbury District) of NSW, Australia. Just send us a pm to see what we may have.

Mill Farm is a small family farm in Kurrajong HIlls, growing Christmas trees (sales starting 2026 season), breeding silkies for show and cut flowers for the wholesale florist trade. We grow cut flowers, are wedding and event florists and raise silkie chickens to show but often have excess stock which we don’t mind sharing. Most stock is available from January to June. All our older birds, growers

and breeding stock are vaccinated against Marek's Disease and are routinely treated for internal and external pests. We have many colours - White, Black, Buff, Blue, Splash and Partridge. We also have some new colour projects for the future.
“Day old “ chicks may be available this year (2022) in standard silkie colours as well as some non standard colours. Message us to see when our next hatch is due.

Clearing privet at Mill Farm by hand. We used to have large garden beds which became over run by privet and other weeds. The lower maintenance option will look beautiful nonetheless. I love this property.

A busy weekend at Mill Farm installing Agricultural drains for improved drainage and smoothing out between the hills on which the tree seedlings are planted. Still more to be done.

My new chrysanthemums.
I am trialling some chrysanthemum varieties that I haven’t grown before. All are cut flower varieties which I’m hoping to grow commercially for local sales in the future. There are some nice ones in there.

My late propagated chrysanthemums are now potted and placed in the greenhouse. They will be used as mother plants to produce cuttings for next year and are under day length extension lighting to keep them vegetative (no flowers). They are mainly tiny flowered Santini varieties. Some will be taken out and allowed to flower for the Hawkesbury Show.
I do have other larger flowered varieties outside also. I will see when each new variety flowers under natural day length conditions.
Looking forward to when I can plant up large quantities to sell as cut flowers from the farm. Christmas trees are the priority for this year.

For all Silkie keepers and breeders-

We are partnering with Fluffybum Farm in a new Facebook Subscription programme. It will be for people wanting not only the basics of Silkie raising but taking it to the next level of breeding for the show or exhibition scene. You will get insights into the things that some breeders choose to keep secret and you will get the warts and all stories from us both. We have all made mistakes and we will help you to not make those that have caused us considerable grief.
To subscribe just follow the instructions on the Fluffybum Farm page

Sorry for the repost - but the last one was unshareable for some reason!

Starting from today, Mill Farm Silkies (now Mill Farm Kurrajong) and I are excited to launch our brand-new Facebook Subscription Program! This has been created for those who would love a little more behind-the-scenes access, education and connection with us and our birds.

Every new subscriber will be emailed a PDF we have put together on basic chicken keeping, with more in-depth articles down the track to follow on from those founding blocks.

Subscribers will enjoy exclusive content including breeding insights, husbandry tips, early access to available pet quality birds, member-only Q&A sessions, priority notifications, breeder and judge interviews, breeding tips, medical basics, and some very honest posts about the mistakes we have made along the way. It’s our way of building a closer community with the people who genuinely support and share our passion.

We’re so grateful for each and every one of you, and we can’t wait to bring you along for this next chapter.

5% of all subscription earnings will be donated quarterly to Kirsty's Bird Sanctuary & Wildlife Rehabilitation, as we are passionate about our local wildlife.

This weeks articles will be "Things I wish I knew before I started breeding silkies - mistakes to avoid" by myself, and "Best housing practices for exhibition silkies" by Martin Wade.

If you have any questions at all, please reach out, we appreciate all your support on our new venture.

Well there we have it. Our business name for our Christmas tree enterprise is now registered. Stay tuned!

I have left it very late to propagate my chrysanthemum cuttings this year. They should just make it. I do have some older plants of new varieties however which will get a cut back today to encourage branching.
Always seem to be chasing my tail 😝
