Forage Farms

Forage Farms We are all about producing healthy, pasture-raised food under Natural Sequence Farming principles to share with customers.

We provide you with the ultimate Grow + Forage + Feed experience having only the best free range + earthed out produce. Forage Farms epitomise the definition of ‘forage’... and some! Our chooks, pigs and cattle live just the way they’re meant to - roaming and grazing in the paddock 24/7, hanging out with their mates, and snoozing in the sun. They’re regularly moved to new paddocks ensuring access

to the freshest grass possible. This enviable lifestyle means our critters are happy, healthy, and earthed-out. It also means our eggs, pork and beef taste like proper food should - tasty - and actually nourish the people who eat them. Our chemical-free, pasture-based approach incorporates natural-sequence farming techniques to keep our land hydrated and fertile naturally. We do all this because we don’t just want to farm sustainably, we want to actually regenerate the landscape.

Here it is.

The new look has landed and is already on its way to stockists. Keep an eye out; you'll start spotting it on shelves any day now.

Feels like a bit of a new chapter for us; this packaging is built for where Forage Farms is headed, not just where we started.

Same hens. Same paddocks. Same standard. Just a new look.

Feeding day at Forage Farms 🐔🌱

Every week we head out into the paddock to top up our laying hen feeders with a carefully formulated ration designed around the needs of our birds.

Because our hens live outdoors and forage through grass, insects and the paddock environment, their nutrition needs to account for more than just grain. We work closely with our nutritionist to adjust rations for different stages of the laying cycle, from young pullets coming into lay through to mature hens.

Small changes, like balancing calcium levels or tailoring nutrients for growth and egg production, all play a role in supporting healthier birds and better quality eggs.

It’s the level of detail behind the scenes that helps us produce pasture raised eggs the way we do. 🥚✨

Pasture Raised.
No Nasties. No Nonsense.
Always Foraging.

Not long now.

The biggest change people notice when moving from conventionally grown to pasture raised is often the taste.

Pork is a great example of this. The animal itself hasn’t changed, but the environment it’s raised in has.

Giving pigs access to pasture, allowing them to forage, move through paddocks and interact with their environment creates a completely different end product in terms of flavour and quality.

Most pork in Australia is still produced indoors, with only a small percentage raised with access to the outdoors. Our approach is focused on creating a system where the animals can express natural behaviours while still receiving the nutrition they need to grow well.

There’s still a lot we don’t fully understand about why these changes happen, whether it’s the ability to forage, exposure to sunlight, or simply the environment itself.

What we do know is that happier animals raised in a natural system produce a better quality product. 🐖

From the beginning, the idea was to build a model that could be replicated across multiple farms, rather than simply scaling by buying more land.

We’re now working with three farmers around Gympie who are raising hens in the paddock using the same methods we use here. We buy the eggs from them, process and pack them, and get them out to customers.

It means we can produce more food without needing to keep acquiring more land, while giving other farmers another way to diversify their businesses.

Two of our producers are also graduates of our four-day course. They’ve been implementing natural sequence farming principles on their own properties and are now using the Forage model to produce eggs alongside their existing operations.

They’re improving their landscapes, producing quality food and earning a premium for that product compared with what they were receiving through the commodity market. That’s the kind of farming model we’re interested in building 🌾🤝

Are our chickens “grass fed”? 🐔🌱

It’s a question we get fairly often when we talk about our pasture raised eggs.

Chickens aren’t ruminants and aren’t designed to live on grass alone. Their digestive system is suited to seeds and grains, which is why we provide a formulated pellet ration to give them the consistent nutrition they need to produce high-quality eggs.

What the pasture provides is the opportunity to naturally forage through grasses, insects, legumes and herbs. That diversity is where a lot of the flavour and character of our eggs comes from.

That’s what we mean by pasture raised: access to pasture and natural foraging, alongside a nutritionally balanced diet.

Nutritious beef starts with a paddock that's had time to recover and a diversity of plants to graze on, not just a grain ration.

That's the whole philosophy behind how we raise cattle here: rest the ground, let the pasture do its job, and the beef looks after itself. Grass-fed and finished, no shortcuts, across our farms.

Looking to stock the fridge with eggs too? We've got our big boy oversized eggs, the ones that don't make it onto the shelf because they're too big. And if you're lucky, you'll get some double-yolkers in there as well.

Freezer running low, fridge needing eggs, or never tried us before? We've reduced pricing on our beef and our oversized eggs from 21 to 26 July. Check it out ➡️ https://www.foragefarms.com.au/a/collections/products?filters=Specials
