The Kyneton Cherry Farm

The Kyneton Cherry Farm Located in the beautiful Macedon Ranges, we use regenerative and organic principles to grow cherries, other fruits, garlic and seasonal vegetables.

Since 2000 our orchard, located in the Macedon Ranges, has operated using organic principles. We don't use RoundUp or post harvest chemicals. This means we deliver fresh and chemical free cherries and other produce. Our main cherry varieties are: Simone, Sylvia and Stella, as well as a number of heritage varieties. We have also planted new trees over the past 3 years which will be producing fruit

in coming years. Please note we are not a pick your own orchard. In addition to cherries, we have heritage apples, nashi and bosc pears, apricots, almonds and feijoas. Over the winter months we grow 2 different varieties of garlic which are available for sale from December. Our 2 rescue ponies keep the compost going, and our bees pollinate our crops and sometimes we take a bit of honey from them.

The communities of Harcourt/Ravenswood haven’t been far from our thoughts since the devastating fires of 9 January. Over the years, we've had the privilege of meeting many of the lovely people from the area who've shared their expertise, ideas, and delicious local produce with us. As time passes, our thoughts remain with them as they embark on the recovery journey.
If you can lend a hand, the Harcourt Progress Association is coordinating a fundraising appeal to support the community's rebuilding efforts. https://www.harcourtprogress.org.au/

Merry Christmas to all.
Unfortunately, like many cherry farmers in Vic and Tassie our cherries won’t be ripe before Christmas. All we can do now is sit and wait and hope for some warmer weather … but not too warm 😀

We’re still waiting. Our Sommersets, which are our earliest variety, are ripening well. However we only have one row of them. It seems likely they are the only ones which will be ready pre Xmas. The other varieties are a long way behind. We’re pleased with the progress of the apples as they are looking good.

It’s a very slow start to the season. With almost no warm weather, in fact mostly cold weather, the cherries are slow to ripen. It makes it hard to predict when they’ll be ready but at the current rate it won’t even be before Christmas!

‘How are the cherries going?’ It’s a question we get asked around this time of year and this year the answer is ‘we’re not sure’.
The blossoms have been much later than usual and the wind has caused some damage. The lack of rain over autumn and winter is of concern too. So we’re waiting to see how things progress. We won’t be taking any pre-orders but keep an eye on our page for updates.
