🌱🍅 THE DOS JUANS HYDROPONIC EXPERIMENT CONTINUES… 😂

A few of our customers have been asking, “Juan, how are the hydroponics going? We want to see the setup!”

Well… here you go! 👀🌱

The greenhouse is getting busier by the day. We now have:

🍅 Tomatoes
🫑 Capsicums
🥬 Lettuce
🌱 Radishes
🌿 Brussels sprouts
🥗 And plenty more growing or waiting for their turn!

And… did I mention I planted CHILLI too? 🌶️🔥

Now, anyone who knows me knows there is one small problem with this…

I DON’T EAT HOT FOOD. 😂

So why exactly am I growing chilli???

Apparently, someone around here wanted chilli plants. 🙄🌶️

So naturally, I had to plant them… while complaining about it the entire time. 😂

I’m already preparing myself for the future conversation:

“Juan, try this chilli!”

NO.

“But you grew it!”

I GREW IT. I DIDN’T SIGN A CONTRACT TO EAT IT. 🤣🌶️🔥

What started as a little hydroponic project has somehow turned into pipes, pumps, reservoirs, nutrients, pH meters, EC meters, temperature sensors and enough equipment to make the greenhouse look like NASA has opened a vegetable division. 🚀🥬😂

But everything is growing beautifully, and we’re having a lot of fun learning along the way.

Since so many of our DOS JUANS FINE FOOD customers have been asking to see the setup, we’ll keep sharing updates as everything grows. ❤️🌱

And if the chilli gets ridiculously hot, you know who to blame…

NOT JUAN. I DIDN’T WANT IT. 😂🌶️🔥

🚨 CASTLE HILL… YOU’VE DONE IT AGAIN! 🚨😂

Once again, our stall at Castle Hill Farmers & Fine Food Market has been absolutely attacked by hungry people… and our pasta didn’t stand a chance. 🤣🍝

Today’s casualties:

🎃 Pumpkin Ravioli — SOLD OUT!
🦆 Duck Ravioli — SOLD OUT!
🍤 Prawn Ravioli — SOLD OUT!
🍝 Most of our other pasta — GONE!

And our superstar, our best seller, the one that apparently has its own fan club…

🏆 RAGU LASAGNE — SOLD OUT! 😭😂

At this point, we’re starting to think we should stop calling ourselves DOS JUANS FINE FOOD and rename the business “Sorry, We’ve Sold Out.” 🤣

By the end of the market, we had just 6 lonely boxes of pasta left. SIX! They were sitting there looking very nervous. 😂

A massive THANK YOU ❤️ to all our wonderful Castle Hill Farmers Market regulars who keep coming back and supporting us market after market.

And a very special welcome to all the new customers who visited the market for the first time today. We hope you enjoyed it—and if you managed to get some ravioli or lasagne, congratulations… apparently you participated in a competitive sport today. 🏃‍♂️🍝😂

Now Juan has to go back to the kitchen and explain to the pasta machine that Sunday has been cancelled. 🤣🤣🤣

What is it? We’re not telling you yet. You’ll have to keep wondering—and preferably make some wildly incorrect guesses below. 😂

Juan would also like to confirm that he is not a plumber… although after today’s masterpiece of pipes, taps and running water, he’s seriously considering a career change. 🔧🚿

Juan’s Plumbing: If it doesn’t leak immediately, the job is complete. 😂

After its little unexpected holiday at the repair shop, our coolroom trailer is finally BACK and doing what it does best… keeping all our goodies nice and cold! 😂🙌

And most importantly — ALL OUR GOODIES ARE SAFE AND SOUND! ❤️❄️

🌟 Freshly Packed and Ready to Go! 🌟

Well… we’ve just finished packing up another batch of our homemade Beef Cannelloni, Spinach & Ricotta Cannelloni, and fresh Ravioli… and let’s just say, the kitchen smells AMAZING! 🤤

Each one is made with love, packed with delicious fillings, rolled or folded by hand, and ready to head to the Central Coast Farmers Market tomorrow.

The only problem is… they keep looking at us as if to say:

“Please don’t sell us… eat us yourselves!” 😂

Sorry little Cannelloni and Ravioli… our customers have been waiting! ❤️

If Beef Cannelloni, Spinach & Ricotta Cannelloni, or Ravioli are your favourites, make sure you come early before they disappear. They have a habit of finding new homes very quickly! 🏃‍♂️💨

🥬 HYDROPONIC LETTUCE UPDATE! 🥬

Well… we almost had a heart attack this week! 😱❄️

The temperature dropped to -1°C INSIDE the greenhouse! 🥶

I barely slept that night, imagining my poor little lettuces writing their last will and testament… 😭😂

The next morning I walked into the greenhouse like I was entering a disaster movie…

“Who’s still with us?” 😬

To my surprise… THEY ALL SURVIVED!! 🎉🥬💪

And now… I think they’re growing out of pure revenge! 🤣

For those who don’t know… Juan used to be an IT Engineer.

Actually… who are we kidding? He still is! 😂

If you saw his office, you’d think NASA had opened a branch in the Hunter Valley. 🚀💻

And the greenhouse? Oh no… it’s no ordinary greenhouse.

📡 Temperature? Connected to the internet.
💧 Water temperature? Connected to the internet.
🌡️ Humidity? Connected to the internet.
🧪 pH? Connected to the internet.
⚡ EC? Connected to the internet.
📱 Phone? Receiving alerts every five minutes.

We’re pretty sure the lettuces have Wi-Fi passwords and are secretly sending Juan daily progress reports. 🤖🥬

At this point, the only thing NOT connected to the internet is Juan… because he’s too busy checking everything else! 🤣

Seriously though, every morning we walk in and they’ve doubled in size. At this rate they’ll soon be asking for their own postcode… and probably their own IP address! 🌱➡️🥬➡️💻😂

The hardest part now is waiting.

Every time we walk past them they’re practically yelling:

🥬 “COME ON JUAN… STOP TAKING PHOTOS AND EAT US ALREADY!” 🤣

We honestly can’t wait to harvest them. Fresh, crunchy, hydroponic lettuce grown with a little love, a lot of technology… and just enough panic to keep things interesting! 😄💚

Who would have thought a bunch of lettuce could survive -1°C and still come back looking happier than their grower?
