Thank you Justine Brooks - Candidate for the West Tamar Council for such a lovely share, and for supporting us, I agree completely.
🍪
Supporting local people in the west tamar and legana is very important to providing a thriving community with interests, skills and businesses no matter how big or small.
🍪
Have a great weekend everyone, the girls and I will have the Bickie Barn back out Sunday from approx 8.30am until dark or sold out. Don't miss out on your faveourite flavours and trying some new ones too.
🍪
The Bickie Barn going forward will be out every second weekend from today and on special occasions. If you can't make it to the shed, message us for express delivery options statewide. 🍪
One thing I absolutely love about the West Tamar is the rise of small cottage industries and roadside stalls popping up throughout the region.
This morning’s stop was the gorgeous little self-serve “Big Bickies” bickie barn in Legana, packed with homemade cakes, slices and biscuits, all operating on trust, creativity and local support.
And honestly, these little cottage industry roadside stalls are doing something really important.
They’re:
🍪 helping people create small local businesses
🌸 encouraging creativity and entrepreneurship
🚗 giving the West Tamar its own unique character
❤️ building community connection and trust
💰 keeping money circulating locally
There’s a quote that says:
“Out of chaos comes creativity.”
And in times of rising living costs and financial pressure, it’s probably never been a better time to start a side hustle or cottage industry doing something you genuinely love.
As a planner, we often talk about economic development in terms of major projects and investment. But sometimes the real heart of a community is found in the smaller things, like pulling over at a roadside stall to buy homemade slices from someone having a go.
It’s local.
It’s authentic.
And it’s exactly the kind of community character we should be protecting and encouraging in the West Tamar.
Big shout out to Big Bickies for adding a little extra sweetness to the community 🍪💕
