Tarago Valley

Tarago Valley Tarago Valley is a certified organic dairy farm in West Gippsland

We are young farmers that are passionate and committed to the dairy model of a small herd, raising all of our male calves to maturity, nurturing our land through biodiversity and sustainable organic practices. Our beautiful cows graze the lush pastures of the Tarago River flats, producing a rich creamy milk for our products. We are proud of producing a product that is certified organic, additive free and contains no growth hormones or genetically modified organisms.

Moving the heifers back onto the hills

Nothing beats riding out to collect the cows for milking on your horse with your dogs, where you can forget all the drama that is going on in the world. It’s like time has stopped.

It’s good to be back on the horse, I forgot how much fun I have rounding up the cows, George loves it too.

Bringing the heifers in from our large turnout block, made so much easier with my two little helpers

Shearing the Angora goats, our w**d eaters.
Their silky mohair will soon be on a boat to South Africa where it will be turned into fine suits for wealthy businessmen. Our Angora goats have been in our family for 60 years, originally brought onto the family farm as w**d control, and have been bred up to produce a high quality mohair, it’s a nice little value add.

They say farm life can be lonely and isolated. When I get up to get the cows in the morning, I am greeted by my 5 friends, Sammy, Poppy, Miles, Marlo and Molly. They all come out to get the cows in, Molly jumps in the buggy, Miles runs beside it, Marlo and Poppy run ahead playing, and Sammy follows. While I milk, Miles and Molly quietly keep the cows moving into the rotary dairy, and when they get off if they stand around too long, Marlo tells them to move on, and Poppy, she sits beside me, supervising. These beautiful souls so full of love and loyalty, I just love their company, they keep me calm and grounded.
