There is a reason why it is important to label bottles. I was all set for a fire cider and picked up a bottle of what I thought was fire cider, only to realise that it was ginger/honey cordial instead. Made for a delicious cuppa with cinnamon and a spoon full of Bee Tea.

The Brewery coming to Chittering

We are a family of six - Craig and Araluen, with our four children aged between 4 and 12 years old. After studying and travelling and working in many jobs that just weren't cutting it, the idea of building a micro brewery in our backyard sprung upon us. Encompassing both Craigs and my (Araluen) passions. Craig has been brewing beer at home since the late 1980s, and an avid BBQ-er and I am the serial studier and perpetual investigator of new ideas. We decided on an off grid, tyre/concrete construction, on a hill with city views (on a clear day), with a Steam Punk Theme, because, well, Steam Punk is centred around the industrial revolution and around the same century as the patenting of cement and tyres and of course, the commercialisation of beer production. We are planning on beginning construction in June 2018, with a quick build, and completion in the second half of the year, ready for summer.

We have had many ups and downs so far on our Brewery Building Journey, fortunately more ups than downs. At each turn there has been another gem, the most significant being the new found joy and challenge of creating drinks for the non drinking fraternity - the drivers, the partners, the children, the otherwise avoiders of alcohol and those who drink spirits with mixers. Most people want to drink something other than water when they go out, and lets face it, most non alcoholic offerings are not great, generally over sweet, hot (tea, coffee or chocolate) or just plain boring. So while Craig has been perfecting his beer recipes, I have been in my element making speciality drinks, which I sell at markets and are generally made from excess local produce. This has worked very well at taking my mind off the frustration of raising the finance to build our super efficient building.

So here we are in 2018, with a project that promises to provide a place for people to connect with other locals, who they may not see often due to the busy - ness of life, providing employment, and small business opportunities. A place for families to spend a leisurely afternoon together. Ideally located at the end of the Northlink road, due to be completed next year, putting us within an easy drive of the city, come mid 2019.

Please follow our journey and ask us questions, offer ideas and generally interact with us. Come and say Hi at the markets, I love meeting our followers and getting feedback on new drink flavours and ideas that we have posted on Facebook and Instagram.
