WELL… THIS IS AWKWARD.

Who doesn’t s**t themselves when the local authorities turn up unexpectedly?! 😂

Yep. The Health Inspectors paid the Daintree Gateway Fruit Stall a surprise visit — and I wasn’t even there to put on my best “I’m a very responsible food producer” face!

They came to make sure I’ve been a good girl… checking that we’re doing everything we should be doing to keep our food safe and meeting all the requirements.

And look at those faces…

THUMBS UP!

I mean, can you believe it?! 😂

Thankfully, these guys are actually much nicer than their job titles make them sound. They’ve been incredibly helpful and supportive, and I genuinely appreciate the way they work with local businesses to help us get things right.

Because behind all the fresh fruit, homemade goodies and roadside stall fun, there’s a whole lot of food safety, hygiene and compliance happening behind the scenes.

And yes… we’re meeting the requirements! ✔️

So thank you, guys — for your guidance, your support and, most importantly, for this absolute cracker of a photo.

DIY signage has officially entered the stall…

We’ve had some really helpful feedback recently that there’s been a little confusion about whether that bright citrusy thing is an orange, mandarin or lemon.

And honestly, feedback like that is gold — it helps us make the Daintree Gateway Fruit Stall better!

So, in the interest of making life easier for everyone (and preventing any further citrus identity crises), a little DIY signage has been happening!

We’ve now got some new funky fruit tags to help make it much easier to know exactly what’s what.

Handmade, a little quirky, and hopefully doing the job!

From Mum’s garden to our fruit stall! ❤️🌺

These beautiful rosellas were freshly picked from Mum’s garden and turned into delicious homemade Rosella Jam.

If you’ve never tried rosella before, it has a gorgeous sweet-tart flavour that’s perfect on fresh bread (sourdough omggg), scones, or even with cheese.

Made in small batches using fresh local rosellas, it’s one of those special seasonal treats that won’t last long!

Pop into our Daintree Gateway Fruit Stall and grab a jar while they’re available. Supporting local has never tasted so good! 🌺🍓

🎶 Let Me Blow Your Mind 🎶

This little fruit stall is hard work… but it’s also my safe place.

Honestly, your support keeps us going.

Can we all take a minute to admire the newest member of the team… my fancy new fruit cart! 😂 After dragging around the old one with its busted wheels while nursing a fractured shoulder, bursitis and a body that occasionally feels held together by hope and Panadol… this thing feels downright luxurious!!

We’ve also been loving reading all the little messages you’ve been leaving in the honesty box. They’ve made us laugh, smile and reminded us why we do this.

…Except for the letter from the government. Apparently some miserable bu**er dobbed us in for selling our neighbour’s beautiful organic eggs. 🤦🏼‍♀️ So, no more eggs for now.

But we’ve still got plenty of tropical goodness waiting for you:

Our new Daintree Gateway Fruit Stall is stocked with all your tropical favourites — fresh local fruit, frozen fruit, dried mango, dried black sapote, and our range of freeze-dried treats including passionfruit, mango and pineapple.

Whether you’re grabbing something for the week, looking for a healthy snack for the road, or stopping in on your way through the Daintree, we’d love to see you.

Have you got fruit on your trees that’s going to waste?

We’re always looking to buy locally grown fruit for the Daintree Gateway Fruit Stall. If you’ve got extra mandarins, oranges, bananas, tropical fruit, or anything else that’s in season, we’d love to hear from you.

We pay wholesale prices and believe in keeping both our food and our dollars circulating within the local community. Whether it’s a few buckets from your backyard or a larger harvest, we’re happy to have a chat.

You would t believe my luck today!

Lisa Millar walked into the Daintree Gateway Fruit Stall because she’d seen one of my reels on social media and wanted to know more for ABC’s Back Roads.

What the actual BEEEP?! 😂

One minute I’m stacking fruit and talking rubbish on Instagram, the next I’m being interviewed by one of Australia’s best storytellers.

And can we talk about the crew? Absolutely bloody legends. The whole team was warm, genuine, curious, and up for a laugh. They might be city folk, but honestly, you’d never know it… easily mistaken as locals. No airs and graces, just good humans who were genuinely interested in our little patch of paradise.

It’s easy to forget sometimes that what feels normal to us here in the Daintree is actually pretty special. Today was a nice reminder of that.

A social media reel leading to a visit from Lisa Millar and the Back Roads crew was definitely not something I saw coming, but I’m so glad it happened.

Still buzzing. Still slightly in disbelief. And yes, I may have fan-girled just a little bit.

Fresh in store this week at Gateway Fruit Stalls FNQ — some incredible tropical fruits that are a little bit unique and definitely worth trying! 🌿🥭

🖤 Black Sapote
Often called the “chocolate pudding fruit,” Black Sapote has a soft, rich texture when fully ripe and a naturally sweet flavour that reminds many people of chocolate mousse or caramel pudding. Don’t let the green skin fool you — inside is a dark, creamy fruit packed with Vitamin C and fibre. Delicious eaten fresh with a spoon, blended into smoothies, or added to desserts.

💚 Soursop
Soursop is a tropical fruit with soft white flesh and a sweet tangy flavour often described as a mix between pineapple, strawberry, and citrus. It’s juicy, refreshing, and commonly enjoyed in smoothies, juices, or eaten fresh. Loved across tropical regions for generations, it’s also rich in antioxidants and Vitamin C.

💛 Abiu
Abiu is a beautiful tropical fruit with smooth yellow skin and soft, creamy flesh inside. Its flavour is often compared to vanilla custard or crème caramel, with a delicate sweetness that makes it perfect eaten chilled straight from the spoon. Refreshing, unique, and packed with Vitamin C.

Thanks so much for all the shares, comments, messages, and support following my video. It’s sparked a really important conversation around community values, trust, and respect — because honesty systems only work when people choose to do the right thing.
