The countdown is over.

Today was Charlotte’s last day of school before our family hits the road for the next eight weeks on the Smoke & Soul Project.

It was a busy day of final preparations. I picked up meat from Specialty Foods, then Peta and I headed to Campbell’s Wholesale and Aldi to stock up on everything we need for the salads and side dishes for our first BBQ.

Back at home, it was time to start setting up the smokers, BBQs and equipment ready for Saturday night’s Adelaide BBQ for the Homeless.

After months of planning, fundraising, phone calls, emails and preparation, it’s hard to believe we’re finally here.

Tomorrow it all begins.

Day 1.

48 HOURS TO GO.

It’s finally here. After nearly a year of planning, fundraising, organising and preparing, the reality of what’s ahead hit hard today.

Sofia finished kindy for the last time before we leave. When we return home in August, she’ll be getting ready to start school. Watching that chapter close made everything feel very real.

The rest of the day was spent collecting charcoal and firewood from Charcoal Kings, sorting gas bottles, ticking off the final jobs and spending some quality time with the girls before the adventure begins.

In just two days, the first BBQ starts.

57 days.
20 BBQ events.
More than 7,000 kilometres.
Thousands of meals.

🎙️ SMOKE & SOUL SATURDAYS – EPISODE 33

Well… this is it.

The final episode of Smoke & Soul Saturdays, and this time next week the smokers will be fired up and the Smoke & Soul Project will officially be underway.

As I recorded this episode, I found myself reflecting on just how far this project has come. What started as an idea almost a year ago, and officially launched over the October long weekend, has grown into something far bigger than I ever imagined.

Together, we’ve raised just under $31,500. That support will help us travel more than 7,000 kilometres, host 20 BBQ events in 57 days, and hand out thousands of free meals to Australians doing it tough.
