Well, Spring has sprung & the grass is riz, as the saying goes, but we don’t need to wonder where the rainfall is. We’ve certainly been getting our fair share over the last few months & August was no exception. We received a couple of spectacularly large falls early & later in the month, which brought our monthly total to 116.75mm, which was recorded over 17 days.
Additionally, our YTD figure is now sitting at 551.5mm (103 days), which is either on a par with, or higher than figures in recent years. Highest falls were recorded as follows; 43mm (24/8), 29mm (9/8), 15.5mm (8/8) & 4mm (2/8).
By comparison, in August 2025, SRP received a total of 95.5mm in our gauge over a similar 17 day timeframe. The YTD figure to the end of August 2025 was slightly lower, at 497.9mm (78 days).
The forward forecast shows more rainfall on the horizon over the coming week, so hopefully, we haven’t seen the end of the larger falls just yet. We still need some top ups for our dams & to keep those streams & rivers flushing. Most paddocks are still a little heavy underfoot after recent heavier rainfall, but to maintain pasture growth, we certainly need some subsoil moisture prior to the warmer spring & summer conditions.
Hopefully, some slightly warmer temperatures to come as Spring comes into its own & isn’t it delightful to see all the animals & vegetation springing into new life! Enjoy the feel, the smells & the warmth as Spring emerges in our neighbourhoods. It almost makes you want to sing & dance! 🎶💃
