The rainfall for September was quite disappointing, especially after a promising start. We received a meagre 28.5mm over 11 days for the month, which didn’t really compare with the same period in 2025, where our gauges registered 60mm (16 days). Fortunately, our YTD figure is still ahead of the falls received in 25 & 24 but is well behind the figures for 2023. Our current YTD figure stands at 580mm (114 days), whereas, in 2025 we had registered 557.9mm (94 days) & 2024 our gauges showed 467mm (17 days). However total falls to the end of September in 2023 showed a massive total of 613mm (117 days). Some quite staggering differences!
Our highest falls for the month (and there weren’t many of them), were received as follows; 5mm (1/9), 5mm (13/9), 4mm (4/9), & 3.5mm (2/9). As you can see, the majority of these higher recordings fell at the very start of the month, with little to no follow-up rainfall in the latter half of the month.
It looks like the warmer weather is already sneaking in & we have experienced a few higher temperatures over the last couple of weeks. Most of us will have found our gardens bursting into life with the warmth, with the trees & flowers blooming, the grass growing faster than we can mow it, our animals delivering their long anticipated young & full dams & plenty of green throughout the district.
However, as we proceed into the latter part of the year & closer to summer, I would expect our landscapes to begin their change to the drier sights that we generally see over that part of the year. Make the most of the current greenery and watch as it fades into the distinct browns & yellows of Summer.
