Resilience is one of our core values at Deep Dene — staying steady through the hard seasons, keeping learning, and continuing to move forward.
The past few years have reminded us what that really means. Late breaks, seasons that kept us waiting, and plenty of uncertainty have tested patience and perspective more than once.
And now, alongside that, we’re operating in a world that feels increasingly uncertain.
That’s why this season feels a little different.
With all the sheep now settled into their paddocks and the crops in the ground, we’ve reached a point where we can celebrate the small wins. It’s a quiet milestone, but one that doesn’t go unnoticed after the seasons we’ve had.
Resilience in our merinos comes through the careful selection over time. We’ve aimed to build animals with the structure to carry a valuable carcase, a big fleece, and the constitution to truly thrive. Managing birthweight and weaning weight means lambing can happen with minimal intervention — and seeing lambs hit the ground running… literally… never gets old.
We’re equally grateful to see ongoing improvement in worm resistance and low‑dag sheep, allowing them to spend more time doing what they should be — out in the paddock.
Sheep that don’t just get by, but quietly thrive in our wild Kangaroo Island environment… and beyond.
It's not just about pushing through the tough times — it’s also about recognising the small wins along the way. The pauses. The progress. The moments where things come together.
For now, we’re grateful to stand still, even briefly — to take a breath, reflect, and appreciate the small wins — while staying ready to keep moving forward, whatever the season brings.
