Have you ever tried plein air painting?

It's an arts practice where the artist takes to the outdoors to complete a painting, in the open air, in one sitting. The challenge is to capture the scene in one go, capturing the view, before the lighting changes.

This May, you're invited to take part in the Plein Air Painting Prize held during the Pinot Picnic festival. Koomal Creek vineyard in Middlesex is opening their charming property to plein air artists for the day, with a cash prize of $1000 up for grabs, awarded to the painting judged to be the winner of the day.

Not feeling confident painting outdoors? Drop in to view the action and enjoy a glass of wine from the cellar door, or plan a picnic.

Koomal Creek is presenting our first ever -

Plein Air Painting Prize!

Pinot Picnic weekend: Saturday May 3, 2025, 10am- 3pm.

Leave the four walls of your studio behind and experience painting in the Pemberton wine region landscape. Spend four hours with a palette, a picnic, (and maybe a glass of pinot) and enjoy the fantastic views. In the afternoon, the painting judged the winner of the day will receive a $1000 cash prize.

Invite family and friends to share a picnic, or to drop by during the day to see how the works progress. We’ll run a people’s choice to share the fun and to increase your chances of winning a prize.

10 am - painters setup
10.30am – 2.30pm plein air painting
2.45pm – showcase and winner presentations

Cellar door open 10am – 4pm for tastings and wine sales.
