Holistic Pastoral

Holistic Pastoral We're a farming family producing meat using regenerative farming practices. We are Hillbilly’s. Why do we think of ourselves as Hillbillys?

We grow food in a way that is good for you, good for our animals and good for the land. Some people might call us farmers, but first and foremost we are a small local family, who started growing food for ourselves, to nourish our kids. We farm and manage other people’s land, and we use regenerative farming practises to grow the best food we can. We grow food that is good enough to eat, and we shar

e it with our customers locally and regionally. Our focus on growing food is about caring for country and finding a way to holistically balance all the needs of the land including people, animals, plants, soil and water cycles. We use animals primarily to manage and bring about changes in landscapes, through holistic planned grazing, which rest pastures, and increases biodiversity. Because we are country, we are a bucker of trends, independent, self-sufficient, self-thinkers. We challenge the conventional and take pride in being different. Or farming practices are possibly a step back in time, but we think that’s a good thing, and the food we produce is proof enough for us.

🔧 Butcher’s Shop Update

Things are moving along slowly but surely in our on‑farm butcher shop project!
We’ve drawn up the plans, started collecting and buying the processing equipment, and even trialled our new mincer a few weeks ago. Big win! 🙌

We’ve also picked up all our recycled stainless‑steel benches, and the next major job is building the overhead meat rails, then tackling the floor.

It’s all starting to take shape, piece by piece, and we can’t wait to bring it to life.
Take a look at some of the pics of the puzzle pieces coming together 🧩✨

About a year ago I was lucky enough to be accepted into the “Create” Agroecology coaching course, to learn how to be an agricultural soil coach. The course was a pivotal moment for me in agriculture and education and I highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking about it. I seriously think it’s the best Regen Ag course in the world. It has helped me understand our own farming systems better and I’m going to be using the amazing things I have learnt, to launch my own Regen Ag coaching and consulting business. A huge thanks again to the team, for all you have taught me.

Ground disturbance get a bad wrap, but it’s not always negative. It’s always happening in nature, and it’s important for nutrient cycling, plant, microbe, soil and animal health. Plus it helps us grown nutrient dense food, for us animals! When used properly it’s a great farm management tool, in fact it’s the best one we use.

🌿 What’s Really Behind the Label?

With so many claims on meat packaging these days, it can be hard to know what you’re actually buying 🤷‍♂️

Terms like organic, grass fed, or grass finished don’t always mean what people assume. For example, cattle in feedlots can still be labelled “grass finished” if they’re fed grass pellets, a perfect example of how easily greenwashing can creep into our food system 🤦‍♀️🐄

The most reliable way to feel confident about what’s on your plate is to know the people who grow your food. If you can’t raise it yourself, connecting with your farmer is the next best thing 👩‍🌾

We take that responsibility seriously, and we’re genuinely grateful for everyone who reaches out to learn more about how we farm and why we do things the way we do 👋
