The commercial scallop season continues to go strong 💪

More recent surveys found healthy scallop beds in the Central East Coast that can sustainably support commercial fishing.

This area is now open for commercial fishing, along with the North-West and Lower East areas. That means more fresh, local Tassie scallops are on their way to stores near you!

Here’s how we keep the scallop fishery sustainable:
👉 Only areas with enough legal-sized scallops are opened
👉 Conservative catch limits are set to protect future stocks
👉 Designated breeding areas are kept closed to safeguard future scallop stocks
👉 Fishing is banned in waters shallower than 20m and in sensitive habitats
👉 All vessels are tracked with monitoring systems to ensure fishing stays within the approved open areas
