Check out our small-batch w**es, from aromatic and fragrant sparkling w**e, dry Traminer, Grenache rosé, Shiraz, Grenache, and fortified Shiraz, all made from McLaren Vale fruit. We grow it, we make it, we sell it! We’re looking forward to sharing them with you!

Dunno about you, but we are NUTS for Grenache. And we’re lucky enough to have 75-yr-old vines to work with!

It’s down to the last few days of the Grenache & Goirmet Festival here in McLaren Vale - and we have a few sessions left to join As If W**es for our in-depth w**emaker-led tasting. Grenache is a favorite variety for both of us, so we wax kinda poetic about it. If the weather permits, we’ll also take you in a vineyard walk behind our cellar door!

The Festival is coming! Join us as Tim and Alie engage you in a deep-dive tasting and discussion all about Grenache. Tim Brunato, 4th-generation in his McLaren Vale w**e family, and Alie Shaper, transplanted to South Australia after 20+ years in the New York w**e industry, make three of their w**es from their 75-year-old Grenache vineyard in McLaren Flat.

Grenache is a multi-faceted and versatile grape; get up-close and personal with it’s many personalities, as our dry Provençal-style rosé, 2025 As If “Courage”, as our svelte and juicy dry red, 2024 As If “Persistence”, and as an as-yet unreleased w**e new for 2026! Tasting the three styles side-by-side showcases how one grape, from a single vineyard, can make very different styles to suit a particular day’s mood. We’ll discuss why Grenache has so successfully transplanted from it’s origin in Mediterranean France to McLaren Vale’s Riviera-like climate, how management and growth in the vineyard influences the outcome of each w**e, as well as how the decisions we make in the cellar nudge each cuvée to develop its character.

Each session will last 45 minutes, and is limited to 10 people per session. Specials on purchases of bottles for takeaway will be offered as well.

Hi there! If you haven’t met us yet at As If W**es (and why not?!? ;), here is the second in our series on who we are, and what we’re up to this time of year.
 
Meet Alie Shaper, the other half of the husband-and-wife duo behind As If W**es. Alie was born and raised on Long Island in New York just outside of NYC, and originally founded the As If brand in New York in 2014.

Before making the permanent move to McLaren Flat at the end of 2025, Alie produced w**e for 20 years in New York on the North Fork of Long Island. Although she began adult life as an engineer, she realized that she belonged in the w**e industry. Ten years later in 2005, Alie founded her w**ery, Brooklyn Oenology; the cellar door was in the Williamsburg neighborhood, while her grapes and w**e production were focused on the North Fork of Long Island. 

In 2014, Alie started As If W**es, where “As” stood for her initials, and “If” a word that represents possibility and opportunity, and what happens in life with hard work and a positive approach. Alie joined forces with her good friend and w**emaking colleague Robin, became business partners, and transformed Brooklyn Oenology into Chronicle W**es, and expanded their portfolio into five w**e brands. Alie also had a 9-year stint as w**emaker for an all-rose w**e brand, and was a w**e consultant.
After Alie and Tim got married, they decided to bring the As If W**es concept to McLaren Flat, and 5 years later our cellar door opened.

This time of year, Alie is hard at work doing what she calls “grinding the gears” - arranging events, running marketing and social media, bookkeeping, muddling through IT issues, and all the things that a business needs to keep running. 
When not in the w**ery or juggling logistics in front of four different screens at once, Alie is found in the cellar door, talking about what it’s like to make w**e on the other side of the globe, and tips and tricks for navigating the NYC subways.

Each of our w**es has an inspiration, and a connection to our history and how we became As If W**es. We look forward to meeting you in person at our Cellar Door, at 72 Ingoldby Road in McLaren Flat. We’re open 7 days a week, 10 AM to 5 PM.

We’ve got a new look at our cellar door! We’re back from Winter Break, sporting a refreshed exterior and a little interior upgrade too. We’ve got awesome new windows and doors that we can fling open to the beautiful outdoors on fines days like today, and man, does it make a difference in here!

Tim and Alie are back at the tasting bar for our regular hours, 7 days a week, 10 AM to 5 PM. We’re looking forward to your enjoyment of the upgrades!

We’re escaping to Alie’s NY home town to catch some of the gorgeous summer season there and spend time with family and friends.

And meanwhile, we will be starting on the NEXT phase of renovations to the As If W**es cellar door! Stay tuned for news and updates on the transformation to the exterior…

Come meet us, Alie and Tim - we’re the hubby and wifey duo behind As If W**es, and we love to chat and answer all of your w**e questions. Our range includes both classics, as well as a lesser-found styles from what Alie likes to call the “Weird and Wonderful Department” - we look forward to sharing them with you!
