In 1992, grape growers and wine makers were navigating a market that benefited no one, competing on volume and price, and not reflecting the quali

ty and breadth of Australian grapes or viticulture. It ignored the innate passion of Australia’s wine industry – for agriculture and the land, and for fine produce. This commoditised market played growers and winemakers off against each other, brewing an inherent sense of mistrust. It was no way to operate. No stakeholder along the viticulture supply chain should need to invest and hope things may work out. They need a voice, a body to help guide them to a level playing field where they can be represented fairly, and truthfully. Enter a collective of growers in McLaren Vale, who were selling and marketing grapes in one of Australia’s most iconic viticulture regions. This collective is Winegrapes Australia’s starting point – a group founded to bring trust, and integrity to the industry, wanting each bottle to be as honest, fair and profitable for all who worked to produce it. A little under 25 years on, Winegrapes Australia has evolved as a business, whilst remaining true to our core beliefs. It’s always about putting people are at the heart of everything we do, and being the best partner we can through a shared commitment to success. We do this by providing a depth of knowledge and an unrivalled network. We have fruit to match any needs. We will find the right customer for every parcel of fruit and wine, for the right price. Our members stick with us. They know we understand no grower is the same so we don’t offer a one size fits all approach. We invest time into understanding their unique needs. We are only as strong as the relationships we hold, and accept accountability for our actions. For winemakers, we offer creative, dynamic solutions, crafting special parcels of fruit into targeted batches of wine, suited to the needs of wineries and buyers both large and small. As we navigate our vast resource and networks, we never forget our mission and our values. We are commercially orientated, and always seeking sustainable and profitable outcomes. Our promise is to continue the Winegrapes legacy, to be here as a company, as an innovator and trusted partner. If our members and business partners succeed, we succeed.

We're proud to announce that Winegrapes Australia is now a B Corp Certified.
This achievement builds on our existing Sustainable Winegrowing Australia certification and recognises our commitment to responsible business practices across every part of our organisation—from governance and transparency to environmental stewardship, community impact and the way we work with our growers and partners.
B Corp Certification isn't an application you simply complete. It's a rigorous, independently verified assessment conducted by B Lab Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand that requires businesses to demonstrate high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. Winegrapes Australia achieved a B Impact Score of 96.7, well above the 80-point threshold required for certification.
For us, this certification reinforces what we've always believed: sustainability is about more than how grapes are grown. It's about creating long-term value for growers, regional communities, customers and the environment.
As a grower-led cooperative representing more than 85 growers across 12 South Australian wine regions, we're committed to continually improving how we do business and delivering trusted, sustainable supply for our industry.
Thank you to our growers, team, partners and supporters who have been part of this journey.
