Grenache vines dating back to 1947 were planted by Richard’s father, Burton Hamilton, at Burton’s Vineyard. Shiraz was planted in 1963 and Cabernet Sauvignon in 1968. the Richard Hamilton range sources premium white wine varieties from South Australia’s best regions - the cool climate Adelaide Hills and Watervale in the Clare Valley. Over the last two decades, and further reinforced through recent show success, the Riesling vines selected and planted by Sydney Hamilton in 1974 have yielded wines that have become benchmarks of the variety within the Coonawarra region. With a passion for Merlot, Paul Gordon's expert winemaking has seen the Leconfield Coonawarra Merlot become one of the best wines of the variety produced in Australia. Leconfield's sparkling wine range has a strong following in its own right. The original name of the Sparkling Wine Range was 'Synergy' in honour of the synergy between the Leconfield Coonawarra and McLaren Vale vineyards. Today all the fruit is sourced solely from the Coonawarra vineyards to capture the qualities of the cool climate region that is essential for the creation of elegant sparkling wines. To reflect this change, the name was shortened and 'Syn’ was created. The Syn Sparkling Wines portfolio consists of Syn Chardonnay Pinot Noir, Syn Rouge Sparkling Shiraz and Syn Sparkling Rosé.
