The Maxwell estate vineyards are some of the most favourably positioned in the McLaren Vale district. These eighty acres lie on south facing slopes and alluvial flats, within walking distance (just north) of the McLaren Vale township’s main street. Varieties grown in our vineyards include Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo, Petit Verdot, Grenache, Verdelho and Semillon. Set on ancient

limestone, and in such proximity to the moderating effects of the Gulf of St Vincent, the conditions in the vineyards are ideal for producing small batches of the highest quality grapes, full of intense character. The oldest vineyard on the property, planted to Grenache, was established in the 1930’s; the old Ellen Street Shiraz block below the winery in 1953. The company is also famous for Maxwell Mead - a range of honey wines that are international award winners and benchmark styles. Distributed throughout Australia and exported to the world, Maxwell's have grown to become the largest producer of mead in the Southern Hemisphere, and the most recognised commercially available mead brand in the Australian market.

A crispy chicken skin tart layered with smoked chicken, glazed in chicken garum, finished with fried leek, silky cured egg yolk, and delicate garlic flowers.

A bite sized dish that stands the test of time. Delivering crunch, depth, and pure indulgence. It’s nostalgic and moreish, evoking memories of fighting over the crispiest pieces of chicken skin from Sunday roast. 🤤

An impressive 93 points and a long-standing favourite among our wine community.

Our 2024 GSM is a vibrant expression of Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro, showing lifted red fruits, gentle spice and a finely tuned structure that reflects both site and season. Matured for 15 months in French oak, this release was described by Marcus Ellis as “top quality fruit, picked at the right time and elaborated with deferential respect.” 🍷

Spiced mead season has arrived. 🍯

An ancient drink of fermented honey and warming spice, reimagined for modern winter tables.

Layered with cinnamon, clove and a touch of citrus, it pours rich, golden and gently complex, made for slow moments and colder nights.

Best enjoyed with warm buttery strudel and custard.

As the seasons shift, it’s a bottle worth reaching for.
