Events are one of the best ways for us to explain what our meal bases actually are.

Because the same three questions come up again and again:

What is it?
How do I use it?
What does it taste like?

And honestly, the easiest way to answer those questions is to let people taste them.

When someone tries our Persian Walnut Chicken, Moroccan Tagine or Tunisian Shakshuka, the idea suddenly makes more sense. They can taste the flavour, understand how simple it is, and picture how it would work at home.

That is why these events are so valuable for us.

They give people a chance to experience the food properly, ask questions, and see how easy Middle Eastern home cooking can be with Exotic Bazaar.

Maybe social cohesion starts at the dinner table.

I have been thinking a lot lately about how people come to understand cultures they feel distant from.

So much of that conversation happens from the top down, through policies, panels and public statements. Those things matter, but sometimes the smaller moments matter too.

Before I started Exotic Bazaar, I used to bring homemade Iranian food into work. At first it was just lunch, but slowly the kitchen would fill. People would ask what it was, what spices were in it, whether it was what I grew up eating.

The food made people curious, and once people were curious, the conversation followed.

That idea has stayed with me and it is a big part of why Exotic Bazaar exists.

A shared meal will not fix everything. It will not undo racism, antisemitism or fear between communities on its own.

But it can change the starting point.

Food has a way of softening the beginning of a conversation. It brings culture into everyday life. It turns something unfamiliar into something shared.

Sometimes it starts with a plate on the table, a question about a spice, or someone learning the name of a dish properly.

Those moments may not look dramatic from the outside.

But they matter.

Moroccan soup to warm your soul✨️
1 pack .com.au Moroccan Tagine
1 Tbsp .com.au Harissa blend
3 Lasagna sheets
Any type of veggies you have at hand and ad much ad you can fit in the pot
1 can of chickpeas (or any other bean)
1 can coconut milk

Just mix everything together and cook... come back to a deliciously warm soup

If you are into gardening and reading, then you will undrestand what I am saying when I say that this time of year feels like the end of a good book. You really want to savour the last pages.
With my last zucchinis of the season, I thought a dish just to focus on highlighting the flavours of a home grown zucchini with the heat from Harissa and the tang from Zaatar.
I tried to take my time with them but they were gone in a flash ✨️

Iran is in darkness. People of Iran are fighting a huge monster with their bare hands and their fragile, beautiful lives.
We are watching the little that gets out in horror. Iran's most valuable asset is not oil. It is its people. The poetic, passionate, cultured, educated, and wise people who have been living in captivity in their own country for 47 years.

And now they are being butchered behind closed doors for asking for the most basic human rights.

There is nothing Muslim about the “Islamic” republic. They have weaponised religion to strip a country of everything.

If you support the Iranian people, it won't make you anti-Islam. If anything, you will be helping to free religion too.
