When we first met Karl Record Culture Magazine we never knew the joyful collaboration that would emerge. This post is an ode Karl and his new issue.

We’ve always loved to trade. Karl has been an invaluable curator of our sonic experience at CWH. It wouldn’t have been the same without him. So we send over some ’23 Colossus and ‘22 San Selvaggio, for the launch of Karl’s new mag, Skydiver a couple of Thursdays back.

Good people. Caring about making good things. We’re happy to have these moments in our life ### 💜💜💜

This is Carl.

Carl’s a multi-generational farmer on Dja Dja Warrung Country, on the rich volcanic soils of Colbinabbin that come from Mount Camel.

The name “Colbinnabin” comes from a Ngurai-illum Wurrung word that roughly translates to “the meeting of black and red soil”. And it’s true; the soil profile on Carl’s farm is beautiful.

Carl first planted vines (Syrah) in the early 2000’s, right near the house. With a lifelong passion for soil biology, he immediately certified the vineyard as organic. Over the past two decades, he’s expanded the vineyard to include more Syrah, Grenache and Mataro. His vineyards are immaculate AND biodiverse; a combo that’s a testament to Carl’s wizardry.

In 2026, we were lucky enough to pick some Syrah and Grenache from Carl’s vineyard. It was an absolute blessing.

Farmers don’t often get credit (or have their photos taken!). So, thank you, Carl, for the decades of tireless, regenerative work. We hope our w**es do your life’s work justice.

2024 ‘a sandwich at noon’

🥪 🌻

This white/red blend has already gotten some mad love from all of you!

67% Chardonnay + 33% Syrah.

Zero-zero (like all the 2024’s):
Organic, zero additions, zero sulphur

There are some w**es that aren’t planned. This blend was the result of playtime in the w**ery. Serrendipity. Kismet.

Chardonnay soaked on skins for 48 hours, then pressed into barrel to continue fermentation. Syrah fermented on full skins in open-top tubs and basket-pressed into barrel just as primary fermentation was finishing. Both were matured in barrel for two years without racking or lees stirring. Blended just before bottling.

Electricity in a bottle;
Umeboshi, pomegranate, bay.
