Starting off with the first ever Seaweed Festival, run by the magnificent Love Rimurimu and Mountains to Sea Wellington! We're beyond excited to be a part of this festival, running a Kelp Forest Kai workshop at BGI plus a very special Seaweed Supper Club dinner with everyone's favourite restaurant, Everybody Eats. Have a look at the festival line-up, join us at the workshop https://www.mountainstoseawellington.org/events/workshop-kelp-forest-kai-with-travelling-kitchen and share event links with your friends and whānau. And that's a wrap for our 2024 events! What a joy to hear Rākau Buchanan music while eating a whole lot of kai created from foraged plants and local rimurimu (seaweed) at Miramar Prison Garden. Great to be able to share the space with our supporters and partner orgs, plus introduce many people to eating roast artichokes, Māori potatoes, many different seaweeds, and more. Appreciate you all! And special thanks Emma Whalley and Kate Curtis for the many ways you've supported TK

Beyond excited, and feeling honoured, to have special guest Rākau Buchanan performing their first LIVE gig at our Eat the Garden and Sea event this Sunday. The mix of ambient-style music with taonga pūoro is soul-stirring and beautiful, can't wait to listen to it in the biodiverse space that is Miramar Prison Garden . Link to listen to and buy Rakau's music: https://rakaubuchanan.bandcamp.com/

Two workshops together, with 8+ types of rimurimu (seaweed), 10+ furikake seasonings, 5+ edible flowers, and 20+ people (and more who got to eat the onigiri afterwards). We loved collaborating with The Bento Bar NZ to bring knowledge about rimurimu and how to cook with it in Japanese food, pickles, and dessert. Thanks and SPCC for hosting

Why not cook something during Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori using our bilingual recipes? It’s a fun and delicious way to share kupu hou and stories about kai. There’s somethings for everyone, even if it’s your first time cooking. Check out the recipes link on our website for some ideas on making ngā kai reka. And pass it onto your friends and whānau! We love a creative challenge and running a workshop series with Kāpiti Kaibosh based on potatoes and onions from local farms was a great way to bring our imaginations into play. Spaghetti with caramelised onion, sausage and lemon was a big hit, so was the potato curry, miso-ginger roast potato and gochujang roasted onions. Adding a ‘lucky potato’ to the pumpkin soup, and grating onion and potatoes to make tuna fritters was also a highlight. Privilege to work with Keltie and provide a feast for the ‘doers’ from local charities and community organisations that give so much to others .
