Waking with a sore jaw, headaches or sensitive teeth? Teeth grinding — also known as bruxism — could be playing a part.
Grinding or clenching can happen while you sleep or during the day, and over time it may wear down teeth, damage fillings or crowns, and put extra strain on your jaw joint.
Common signs to look out for include:
- Morning jaw pain or stiffness
- Frequent tension headaches
- Sensitive, chipped or worn teeth
- Clicking or discomfort around the jaw
- A partner noticing grinding at night
If these symptoms sound familiar, a dental assessment can help identify what is happening and discuss ways to protect your teeth, including a custom occlusal splint where appropriate.
