Tasted through the 2025 single-vineyard w**es from Gentle Folk.

The Basket Range Chardonnay was the standout for me — super reductive, with plenty of new oak and flinty character.

Scary Gully Pinot Noir was my pick of the three — much more aromatic and generous than the others.

And Father’s Milk, a Gamay/Pinot co-ferment with Ochota Barrels. Very cool black label, 100% whole bunch and packed with green viney character. Not my favourite, but definitely interesting!

Wild Duck Creek finally realised the entry-level market is where the 💰 is 🤙

They’ve just dropped two new w**es — Three Duck Feet Shiraz and Rosé — both around the $25 mark, and honestly, they’re bloody good.

Also tasted a few new vintages, including the Reserve Shiraz. Big, powerful stuff — generous French oak, dark fruit, leather and sesame, with that wild, rugged Heathcote character.

The Fortified Duck and Golden Duck were first-time tries for me too, and I loved both. They’ll be landing at Purvis very soon.

Liam is seriously good at what he does. Whether you’re into big Heathcote reds or not, it’s hard to fault the w**emaking across the range. We’ve been working more and more closely together, and we’re now up to 20+ Wild Duck Creek w**es sitting in the shop.

Apparently the old Duck now introduces Purvis as their “cellar door in Melbourne”. 😂

I’ll take that. 🤙

🥉🥉 A little surprise this morning!

We’re very happy to receive two Bronze Awards from W**e-Searcher — Burgundy List in Melbourne and French List in Melbourne.

France makes up less than 20% of our range, with most of our energy going into finding great Australian w**es, so this one was definitely a lovely surprise. 🇫🇷🇦🇺

First awards, hopefully not the last! We’ll keep tasting, searching and bringing you good w**es from all corners of the world.

A few weeks ago, we met the team from Sittella W**ery at a tasting. To be honest, we’d never heard of them before — but after tasting the w**es, we knew we had to get them into Purvis Cellars.
Beautiful Margaret River w**es with plenty of character, impressive quality and, best of all, seriously good prices. We’re proud to be their first retail partner in Melbourne.
We loved them. We think you will too. Give Sittella a taste.

Last week, the 2026 Young Gun of W**e winner was announced — and excitingly (though not surprisingly), it was also Adam’s and my standout pick from the tasting that day: Lauren & Matthias Utzinger of Utzinger W**es.
We’ve been big fans of Utzinger W**es for quite some time and are proud to have been carrying their w**es. Their w**es consistently impress with purity, precision and energy — beautifully expressive cool-climate Tassie w**es that truly capture the character of the region.

The 2025 Sorrenberg Gamay has just arrived, and as always, quantities are incredibly limited. Bright, fragrant and beautifully savoury, it’s a stunning expression of Beechworth Gamay — packed with wild red berries, spice and that signature Sorrenberg texture and freshness that make these w**es so collectible.
Year after year, Sorrenberg continues to attract a cult following for its thoughtful, low-intervention w**emaking and remarkable vineyard character. The Gamay is consistently one of the first w**es customers ask for each release season, and we don’t expect this vintage to last long. **e **es **es

This week, we’re welcoming one of Victoria’s most exciting small producers — Jean-Paul Trijsburg, the face behind The Happy W**emaker.
Originally from the Netherlands, Jean-Paul’s journey took him through Burgundy, Germany, Spain, Chile and South Africa before settling in Ballarat, where he now crafts small-batch w**es with a hands-on, minimal intervention approach. His w**es are all about purity, place and drinkability — honest expressions made with plenty of character.
A two-time finalist in the Young Gun of W**e awards, Jean-Paul has built a loyal following for his thoughtful, vibrant w**es and quietly adventurous style.
Small production, seriously good drinking — now in store.
